The angel fish is an awesome fish though it's not typical of cichlids.First and foremost is it's body shape flat and tall unlike any other cichlid with the exception of the discus. It's attitude is also not like that of other cichlids they are rather docile. The only cichlid that can be kept with community fish that are not cichlids!! i will not fib to you though they can get an attitude and kill your mollys,guppys etcetera if they feel the need especially when breeding so when introducing new angels to a tank with community fish in it or new community fish in with angels watch them closely! Oh yes one other thing they don't go to well with other cichlids the other cichlids are too mean! Again there are exceptions discus(though not adviseable-they are to mean for discus)kribensis,and other dwarf cichlids do well you'll just hafta email me and ask my advice about specific fish. The Most Prolific Breeder The Convict
Cichlasoma Nigrofasciatum(scientific name).This fish is one of the most easily distingushed cichlid around. Put a male and a female together they'll breed! Now these may sound silly but it is awesome especially if your just starting and want to see something breed in a small tank buy four convicts, a couple with orange on there stomach(females)and a couple without orange on there bellies(males) and when they're the size of a quarter or so they have the ability to breed. it may take longer than that but they will do it. I promise.And it is amazing to watch these little fish fight anything in the tank including you to protect there young.Try it it's inexpensive but it's way cool!
A Bright Colored Addition The Firemouth
Cichlasoma Meeki(scientific name).This fish is known for it's beautifull red throat and gill plate and is a wonderful addition to any community cichlid tank but be careful! These fish I've experienced a lot of different behaviors from some are so mean you can't put them with anything others can be put with molly's etc. I've also experienced them breeding some of them will breed like convicts others are picky like discus. They have no fine line between.It all depends where and how they were bread. what their water conditions were like and what they were fed if you can find out that stuff you can duplicate it and make them happy. Then they'll do whatever you want. Breeding especially!
