Sunshine
Coast Airport
|
This is the Latest EAST/WEST Runway Proposal
This 2007 Version is not much different from the 1998 version or the
Preceding proposals all the way back to 1982 when it could have been
built for $10.3M (including a new terminal) instead of simply upgrading
the existing RWY-18/36 for $9.8M - The only difference is the CO$T.
Now Council simply CAN'T AFFORD to build it for another 15 years, by which time the Cost will have EXPLODED once again.
Unless the other Sunshine Coast Council are forced to amalgamate and share the cost it will NEVER be built.

The GOOD NEWS is - They are NOT planning to Extend the Existing N/S Runway 18/36
The BAD NEWS is - It won't be built for another 15 Years
and;
It's the 13/31 Version which means Aircraft will still fly over Houses
instead of our 11/29 Version which DOESN'T overfly ANY Houses
But Hey! - 15 Years is a L O N G Time - That's another 2 Master Plans away (1 every 7 years)
We will have had 4 changes in Administration by then. Different Politicians will be in power.
The present Bureaucrats will all be retired and replaced by the present Junior Staff or new recruits
who won't remember this decision - and/or - won't feel obliged to be bound by it.
And why have they adopted the 13/31 location instead of our suggested 11/29?
The reason given is that the 11/29 location infringes upon a newly created NATIONAL PARK.
This is the SAME area that caught fire back in December 1991.
It was and still is - nothing but a Peat Swamp. That's why it caught fire in the first place.
And it burned and smouldered underground for weeks afterwards.
Does
THIS sound like the kind of Area that should be preserved for future
generations by being declared a National Park? NOTHING even lives
there except a few flea-bitten wallabies.
But some know-it-all bureaucrat in his high-rise office in Brisbane has decided it IS.
And so the E/W Runway must be located to overfly existing residental
areas rather than disturb said wallabies (if they even exist).
HISTORY
How did this BUSY
AIRPORT come to be built right in the
middle
of a RESIDENTIAL AREA?
Who was here FIRST ? (The Chicken or the
Egg
Question )
Who's fault is it that we now have a NOISE
PROBLEM ?
Why is the Airport now LANDLOCKED and unable to expand any further ?

UpGRADE UPDATE 2005
<>
It doesn't matter WHO we vote
into Council - After a short while they all turn into PUPPETS for the
resident BUREAUCRATS. They ALL make the SAME MISTAKES their
predecessors made. The LATEST decision to AGAIN UPGRADE the Existing
North/South Runway could easily have been made by the original DUMB
MORONS that stuffed-up 10 years ago.
HISTORY REPEATS
Airport Master Plan
The LATEST (Number 22) of
never
ending series of Master Plans again advocates the construction of an
EAST/WEST
Runway.
The ONLY difference from past reports is the Statistics gathered on the
effects of NOISE on the Local Residents.
They claim that......"Airport Noise
does
NOT seem to be a PROBLEM for the local population"

New
LOCAL LAW
The New LOCAL
LAW governing the Sunshine Coast Airport
empowers
the Council with new EXTRAORDINARY POWERS to enforce penalties and
ensure
its Airport Police against prosecution, but does NOT include any
Restrictions
or Curfews to PROTECT Local Residents.

The CURFEW
The Council
and
Airport Management don't want a CURFEW.
They want
to bring in more business at night and allow earlier take-offs.
They could
stop operations NOW between 10pm and 7am, but they are trying to
introduce
Early Morning takeoffs from 5.30am. - And
they WILL if we let them (By remaining SILENT)

SAFETY
The Hazard of living on
the Flight Path was down-played at the Meeting and we were quoted more
STATISTICS like 1:1,000,000
chance of injury to residents from airport related incidents.
The VERY NEXT DAY
one of our neighbours was almost struck as a light aircraft made a
forced
landing on the beach where she was sunbathing.

A
POSSIBLE
SOLUTION
If
Council
still wishes to proceed with a STAGED DEVELOPMENT as recommended in
this
latest Master Plan, perhaps the following suggestion may satisfy most
peoples
immediate problems;
The
existing
East/West Runway could be UPGRADED to share most of the RPT traffic up
to the size of Sunstates Shorts.
It could
also
be provided with Landing Lights so that the Flying Schools could use it
for Night Flying Exercises, which is presently the NUMBER ONE annoyance
for Marcoola residents.
This would
be a relatively inexpensive solution to most of our present problems.
