Variants for Larry Brom's "The Sword and The Flame" rules
Here is a list of all of our available variants for Larry Brom’s The Sword and The Flame Colonial rules set, these range from renaissance Italy to World War 2. The Jackson Gamers assume that you already know how to play "TSATF" and of course you have a copy of those rules. These are not complete rules sets, although some of them come pretty close. Most of the rules below are in semi-outline form.
THE SWORD IN CANADA Mark Stevens' takes us to Canada's Rial Rebellion in 1885. The half-indian metis, under Joseph Rial, rebelled against the policies of the Canadian government. They were joined by Cree and Blackfoot Indians. The Canadian army consisted of hastily raised militia units, artillery and infantry "school" units, and the Northwest Mounted Police.

THE SWORD IN INDIA Mark Stevens' variant for the Indian Mutiny. British forces, "John company" units, Loyal Indian units, and irregular hastily raised formations trying to put down the rebellious units of the Bengal army. This consists mainly of just the tables & charts. You must have "The Sword and the Flame" rules to use this.

THE SWORD IN THE PHILLIPINES Mark Stevens' variant for fighting the rebellion in the Phillipine islands after the Spanish American War. Mark has used this set to run games at HISTORICONs past. In outline form, this presents just the tables & charts, you should know and have "The Sword and the Flame" to play this.

THE SWORD IN TIBET Chuck Turnitsa's variant for fighting battles between the British and Tibetans, including two scenarios. As with the other variants, this presents just the tables & charts. You should know and have "The Sword and the Flame" to play this.
THE SWORD AND THE PIKE! Yet another TSATF variant, this time taking the rules set back to the Renaissance. Pikes, shot, heavy cavalry, isn't that enought? Not by a long shot, two hand swords, crossbows, halbards, firearm cavalry, huge heavy guns, fast light guns, generals who raise their own armies. Oh what fun this could be! Modified 3/30/02 in light of playtesting.

SWORD, CROSS, & GOLD A variant for Larry Brom's "The Sword and the Flame" colonial rules set. Conquistadors vs. the Native Americans. This set was cobbled up in the early 1990s so that we could play games with Mark Stevens' beautiful 25mm Aztecs and Spanish. This version (the latest) was the 11/94 revision. Quick, simple, fun!

THE TOMAHAWK AND THE FLAME The Old West variant for Larry Brom's "The Sword and the Flame" rules set. Written by Hans von Stockhausen, and posted to the Colonial One-list by Ken Hafer. I have posted it here with Ken's permission after it was removed from the Colonial list. Haul out all of your Cowboys & Indians. Refight the famous battles of the Cavalry vs. the noble Red men!
NEW! EVERY MAN A BRITON A Zulu war variant for TSATF. All the players are on the British side, and the game runs the native units. There is a manual for the British players, giving them some idea as to what is happening. There is also a manual for the umpire, with all the tables and charts to run the Zulu units.
THE SWORD IN PALESTINE Another TSATF variant, this time for The Great War in the middle east. Mark Stevens strikes again! He used this set to run a game at HISTORICON 2000. Just the tables & charts, you should know and have "The Sword and the Flame" to play this.

THE SWORD IN MEXICO Yet ANOTHER TSATF variant, this time for The "Maximilian adventure" the French intervention in Mexico - 1864. Mark Stevens does it yet again! THE SWORD IN THE 20th CENTURY Bringing TSATF into the post-WWI period for adventures in "The Back of Nowhere". Under developement. May change frequently. By Mark Stevens & Jay Stribling. As with the other variants this contains only the tables & charts, you nust have "The Sword and the Flame" to use.

Jay Stribling has used 15mm WWII figures to playtest this quick and bloody small unit game. Major updates and changes to come! Only low level infantry weapons so far.
