Wadi Zoum-Zoum

An arab dhow makes for the river side of the British/Indian encampment (unprotected by the thorn bush zariba. It intends to land a force of 10 men who whill over-run the British guns. In fact, this boat was sunk just off the bank and the surviors waded ashore with swords in hand and had at the gunners(less two eaten by crocodiles)..

Mahdist commanders confer. Brian Thompson on left, David Causey in center, Breanna Causey on right (with arms pulled inside her shirt - an old Mahdist trick). Breanna turned out to be a cracker-jack artillerist setting the large British steamer on fire at the end of the game.

The bend in the river, showing the British steamer, a steam launch and the solid block of the Mahdist vessels about to "turn the corner". Actually sharp eyes will notice smoke pouring from the Mahdist steamer - she is on fire!

Dervishes assault the town. Note moutned emirs urging the faithful onward.

Dervishes still assaulting! The defenders have come out of the houses and off the roofs and the fighting is hand to hand at the village's main entrance. It was a fight the Sudanese and Egyptian defenders did not win.

The Royal Navy pours on the coal as their vessels steam upriver to meet the Mahdist boats.
