NEVER RELEASED GAMES

Have you ever looked at that old issue of Nintendo Power for hours upon hours, looking at the games you wanted to buy? Well I definitely know that feeling. Did you ever see an article for a game that you could never find? Perhaps a store worker or two told you that the game was cancelled. It happens all the time, for those who don't know it. Games are cancelled for many a reasons. Below is just a few games that were cancelled for various reasons.

Airball

Airball. Airball was supposed to come out for Nintendo around 1990 or so. Airball was a puzzle game that originated on Atari St, Commodore 64, and Amiga computers. It was apparently planned for Nintendo...infact two prototypes have been found for this game. From the screenshots I have seen, Airball reminds me of Solstice for Nintendo. I have never played Airball to know for sure though. Other screenshots are below for you to look at.

California Raisins

I think this story is funny. Several years ago, the beloved California Raisins were sypposed to be in their own game by Capcom. The California Raisins game was featured in several magazines. Infact one of the magazines gave California Raisins the "Game of the Month" award. Just to think the game never came out. I also have to say that there must be several proto copies of California Raisins since there were lots of reviews for this game. Below are some magazine scans for the game.

Crossbow

Next we have the game Crossbow. Crossbow was planned for Nintendo by American Game Carts Inc. In the one game, Wally Bear and the No Gang!, there was an add for the game in the train stages. A picture of the add is on the above right. Crossbow was a shooter game, sourt of like Chiller except for the fact that the settings were different. Crossbow was also an Exidy arcade game. It should have come out for it would have been neat. I also must say that the box art on the left is from the actual game.
Cyberball

Tengen had several unreleased games, Cyberball being one of them. I really do not know much about this game, but I do know a few things. Cyberball is a football game with robot players. Infact Cyberball was released for Nintendo by a company named Jaleco.

Dream World Pogie

Dream World Pogie was announced on the back of the Aladdin Deck Enhancer cartridge box. All that really exists of this one screenshot. It probably would have been a Dizzy-like game for the Dizzy characters pets are Pogies.

Earthbound

Here we have the game Earthbound. Earthbound came out in Japan known as "Mother". I really do not know why a US release never was. Earthbound was even mentioned in a Nintendo Power Magazine onetime.

F16 Renegade

F16 Renegade is another one of these games announced by Camerica/Codemasters yet not released. It looks to be a Mig 29: Soviet Fighter clone. The same story applies for this one as does the above game.

Happy Camper

Remember Operation Secret Storm? I do, it was that fun Beat em up Saddam Huessein game. Happy Camper was designed by the same person, Jon Valesh. Jon says that Happy Camper started out as a camping game which then turned into a game where you fight aliens and finally Saddam Huessein. This game looks cool from the boxart. I would have liked to see a release of this game. Maybe Jon should port this over to PC. I hope he's reading this...
