*When you wear this headpiece, make sure you have a lot of bobbypins. If you don't, your headpiece will go spinning off your head. You'll need plenty of pins to hold the top in place, but you should also pin down some of the strands bordering your face. Otherwise, in mid-dance, you may end up with your mouth or eyes full of beads.
Drawstring Zill Bag
*This costume item was made by me, so tell me what you think!
This item does call for some manual sewing ability, and is made for smaller zills (about 2 in.), but it can be modified for large zills.
Materials
1 sq. foot of material (this can be extra cloth from a costume or just a scrap of cloth from Pat Catan's)
thread the color of the material
1 SHARP needle
SHARP scissors
Optional materials
gold/silver tone coins
Instructions
1.) Assemble materials.
2.) Fold sq. foot of material in half (like a hamburger) and measure an area of 5 inches by 5 inches. Mark.
3.) Cut along the marked area, but do not cut the fold (meaning up the sides and the top).
4.) You now have a folded square of 5 inches by 5 inches (when unfolded = 5 inches by 10 inches). Thread the needle and make sure it's double threaded for strength. Sew all the way up the right side.
5.) Close your last stitch on the right with a double-knot. Not cut the thread and do the same on the left side. You now have a paper bag-like look to your zill bag.
6.) Now fold down the top of the zill bag in progress about 1/2 inch. Sew along the edge of this all the way around.
7.) Cut two small holes on each side of the top folded rim. This is where your drawstrings will go.
8.) Use the remaining material to cut two thin strips for your drawstrings.
9.) Knot the end of one side of one drawstring, and shove it through the hole in the bag with a pencil. Push it until it comes out the other hole.
10.) Take the other drawstring and do the same, but do it on the other side of the zill bag.
11.) You not should have two small string ends hanging from each side. Knot each of the two together.
12.) Put in your zills and pull one side of the drawstrings while holding the bag. You're done! Congrats, you now own a hand-made zill bag, which you can tie on to your costume for easy zill access!
