  • E Entertainment Television's special on E Goes to Cannes '96 Leonardo DiCaprio can be seen at about the 19 minute into the hour special. But, 19 minutes into the show was accoridng to my clock, please don't trust my clock.
  • Is Paris is with Juliet in a group dance in the R&J '68 version?
  • R&J 1968, I believe Paris is the one with white hat?
  • What girl is Rosaline in the 1968 version?
  • R&J collectables
Before I get a ton of emails, I would like to say that I (B) have no way of getting any of this stuff!

1976 Romeo and Juliet Re-Release Poster.
1968 Romeo and Juliet VHS tape. (Paramount 1996)
1968 R&J soundtrack. On CD and vinyl.

  • You can see a preview of R + J on video in the recent video release of Courage Under Fire which stars Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan.
  • Wouldn't it be nice if Leo was People's sexist actor of 1997?
Does anyone think we should email people asking them to make him the sexist actor of 1997?
  • Thanks this person who sent me some SIGNS YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH R + J.
  • For quicker news updates, please email all NEWS to my other email address.
  • Tomorrow, tomorrow....
'morrow the Academy Awards (Oscar)will be on the tele (no, I am not British) and Romeo and Juliet's art direction is nominated. They probably will not anounce it during the show, but just might announce the winner before a commercial.

Here are some "goofs" from 1996's Romeo + Juliet from the Internet Movie Database

  • When Romeo bumps into Fulgencio Capulet while high at the party, his mask moves up and down his face during different shots. (don't remember that one)
  • Romeo's wound swaps sides while he's with Juliet.
  • Juliet's hair as she falls into the pool.
  • After Juliet has taken the drug that puts her to sleep, her left hand changes from being above to below the covers.
  • The buttons on Romeo's shirt after he learns of Juliet.

Another thing that has bothered me for about 2 months is the webmaster at http://www.dicaprio.com/, Darrel Gaskins, has not added a link to my R&J site!! He of course, adds a link to my very small R+J site on www.tripod.com (don't tell him that)!! I emailed him and asked him why he has not added a link to my site and he said something like my site was tooooo much of a "teen dream" site and that he wanted only to add links to useful sites. I am thinking to myself, look at some of the other sites he has added a link to. Some of them are "teen dream" sites. This site is sort of a "teen dream" site, but also has some wonderful information that has been compiled. I have reviews from various contributors, daily updated news, humorous jokes about Leo and the movie like "TOP TEN REASONS WHY WE LOVE LEO" and "SIGNS YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH R+J" (and please, someone don't steal the ideas!) lyrics to the soundtrack, wonderful links (including a link to www.dicaprio.com and an + symbol by it), a compiled survey, and much more. You might be asking why I care about some crummy link, well I care because many people go to www.dicaprio.com across the globe and I don't want people to miss the chance to visit this site because I think this site is great and very informative. If anyone would like to email Darrel Gaskins and tell him some of your opinions, feel free and tell him what you think!

  • You can guarantee yourself the Romeo and Juliet Volume II CD to be delivered to your house the day of the release if you order it on-line by March 30 here.
This site has info. on the 2nd CD
  • The Special image site is correct now!! Thanks to those three people who emailed me and told me that their was a problem with it.
  • Thanks to Jessica for 2 signs that you are obssesed with R&J.
  • Here in Hawaii it is cool to wear Hawaiian shirts, although they don't look like the ones in the movie, those look like chinese silk print shirts to me. But here, people wear hawaiian clothes that are solid colors with white prints on them. We can wear them everyday but most people wear them on Friday's since every friday here is know as Aloha Friday. I know you probably thought that of course people wear hawaiian shirts in Hawaii but that's just like a fashion thing at my school.
Thanks to Crystal K, Mt. VIew,HI

    News-March 22, 1997

I noticed that in the 96 R+J, Sampson and Gregory are from the house of Montagues. But in the play, they are from the house of Capulets. Strange...why did they change it?
Thanks to Lindsay The Friar Laurence (I think his name is Pete P-something!) is a monk in the movie "Dragonheart".
    Thanks to Beth

  • It was seen in many picts. that Juliet died with her face touching the already dead Romeo's face. But this is not so the movie however I'm not sure. I was hoping one of you can explain?
Juliet died with her head near Romeo's chest. The pictures of Juliet and Romeo's head together that are "death-like" are actually pictures of Romeo cradling Juliet's "dead" body before drinking the poison- "Eyes look your last, arms take your last embrace," etc, etc.
    Thanks to Kristy
  • The joke around the Titanic set in Rosarito Beach: "Hey Jim (Cameron), can we have July 1 off so we can see the movie?" which is scheduled to open July 2. Jokes aside, the epic may be completing principal photography this weekend.

Young Danny Nucci, playing Leonardo DiCaprio's best pal and cabin mate (in third class) on board gets back in time for the opening of That Old Feeling and DiCaprio in time to start The Man in the Iron Mask. Seriously, young Nucci, (Eraser and The Rock co-star) says the making of the movie has been an amazing experience. "And no acting was necessary in the scenes in which the ship sinks -- it was real!" He also credits Cameron's talents in the personal stories -- such as tender moments between lovers DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

  • a special R&j on mtv europe. I suppose this is the same that you see on US. at the end of the special, claire, dicaprio, and Luhrmann have a little discuss with some high school student about the movie....
Yeah, the show was hosted by this old dude we see in each US interview on MTV Europe (Chris something). The discussion was basically about why the film was taking place nowadays, well because Shakespeare is sooo modern, dear. The interventions of the students sucked IMO, not because they were stupid, but they were not natural. It looked like a civic campaign, but for cultural stuff. MTV at its worst. DiCaprio was, well DiCaprio. Lurhman was overexcited and selling his movie.
Claire Danes didn't talk too much, but at one moment she said how our generation was sacrificed and although this kind of common-place is generally boring, she was touching. I hadn't seen her speaking since MSCL and it's weird because she really looks like Angela. There's some kind of contrast in her personality. She seems to say "I want to have some fun" and in the same time "I have to carry the pain of the world". Weird chick ;-)

  • According to the Internet Movie Database, a "goof" in R&J (1996) was at the party when Romeo turns around to face Capulet and his mask moves up and down on his face.
    Thanks Courtney
  • In the May issue of BOP magazine, there is a pin-up of Leonardo and Claire (not together), and a centerfold of Leo. There are also 2 articles on Leo, one including a pic of him, when he was 16! (He looks 10!)
    Thanks Courtney
  • William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet landed in Spain with a moderate $608,000 in five days (overshadowed by The English Patient); Indonesia with a lively $419,000 in eight days; and Norway with an unexceptional $215,000 in five. Its foreign total is $32.7 million.

    News-March 16, 1997

  • In the May issue of 16 Magazine, in the Q&A section, a girl from Pennsylvania writes: "Does Leo date girls 4 years younger than he is?" the answer: "Leo doesn't put age restrictions on his dates, he went out with Bijou Phillips when she was 16 years old."
  • Has anyone noticed an movie mistakes in the 1996 or 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet?
In the movie Romeo and Juliet ('68) when Juliet is "dead" and laid out outside of the tomb, Lady Capulet (her mother) places 3 red roses between her hands. Then, a transparent sheet is placed over the body and some fine ladies of Verona throw more red roses on her. But, when Romeo comes and visits Juliet, she does not have the roses in her hands nor are there any roses left on the top of the transparent sheet.

  • The introduction of Romeo and Juliet 1968 by Ali MacGraw when the movie was shown on AMC (American Movie Classics) a while ago. The viewing of the movie was sponsored by Waldenbooks, your best source for romance novels. The text is almost word for word.

"Ask people to give an example of a romance classic, and most will answer with, Romeo and Juliet.
Even origins of the story are romantic, wandering minstrels in Medevial Europe sang about the star-crossed lovers two centuries before Shakespeare wrote it down.
With all the movie versions, this is the truest to Shakespeare's play. This was the first time the doomed teenagers were played by teenagers. Usually, most older actors played the parts like 36 year old Norman Sheer (sp?) opposite 43 year old, Leslie Howard.
The play is about the volatile pressures of youth. Zerfferelli deftly (sp?) turned Shakespeare's prose into the poetry of love. This is the first version to show Romeo and Juliet naked on their wedding night.
The entire film is gorgeous. Small wonder the picture won Oscars for costume design and cinematography.
Zerfferelli studies architecture in college and used Italy's renaissance masterworks as supporting players. The famed balcony scene was shot at the palace built by Cardinal Bourges (or Borgasie) in the 16th century. Capulet's homes was built by Pope Pius the 2nd in the 1460 and Friar Lawrence's church is actually the church of San Pietro, a national monument.
An now the international treasure, Franco Zerfferelli's Romeo and Juliet."

  • I (B) would just like to say that a person emailed me last ngiht asking me to send them a picture of the "heart" in Romeo and Juliet because they wanted it tattooed on their body.
  • I believe Leo broke up with Kristine Zang soon after the R+J premiere (I got that from the R+J fanclub by Courtney) and while watching the Gossip Show on E! found out that Claire DUMPED her Rainmaker co-star Matt Damon on Feb. 13, before V-day. This means BOTH LEO+CLAIRE ARE CURRENTLY SINGLE!!! I just didn't know if you received this info yet. Also, do you know where the EI Awards will be announced? Like is it on TV on ABC, or where on the Internet? All I know is that the results are on March 14.

  • The Romeo and Juliet video will definitely be more expensive. It's going to be priced for rental which means it should cost between $70-$100. I don't know why they're doing this since the movie was popular. It will be a few months before the video is brought down to normal price. They did the same thing with Clueless when it came out on video.
    Thanks to Afua
  • A preview of Romeo and Juliet can be seen on the new video that just came out to stores, That Thing You Do.
  • I saw The Pest and I loved it. The first 3 minutes of the movies was a start of an hour laughing fest!!

    News-March 9, 1997

  • I heard that when the Romeo and Juliet VHS tape comes out, it will be more expensive than other films, I don't know if this is true though. I also heard that there will be never-before-seen footage, behind the scenes stuff, as well as interviews with the cast on the video. Thanks to Courtney

  • Here's a piece of trivia you might find interesting. Before they found Claire Danes, 15 yr old actress Natalie Portman (of the Professional) was signed to play Juliet. Leonardo nixed her, though, saying she was too young and he would feel uncomfortable.
Thanks to Kristy for this info.

  • ) "Also, Meryl Streep was the mystery guest on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. Although she didn't get to talk about working with Leonardo, the clip that Rosie showed from Marvin's Room was the scene where Hank's mom comes to get him out of the institution and tell him about Aunt Bessie."
Information comiled by this site who still has not added a link to my site because I think that they are afraid of the competition.
  • A good summary of how Leonardo is in The National Enquirer - There's a big headline on the cover with a small pic of him but it had plenty o' pics inside. It's this stupid story of how he spent the night at Demi Moore's house(it's true but it was only for a screen test for a movie;)). It has some good pics-like how he dresses normally.
