Illinois 61 is a minor route in rural western Illinois. Though signed as a north-south route, the route runs more northeast-southwest. It connects a number of small towns to each other.

Intersections from northeast to southwest:

IL61 begins at US136, west of Tennessee and just east of the McDonough/Hancock County line

Then it turns westerly at Augusta as it intersects IL101

IL61 joins IL94 south at Bowen

The 2 routes split, leaving IL61 heading west again

IL61 joins IL336 south near Loraine

Then it leaves toward the west yet again, near Mendon

IL61 ends in the west at IL96 at Ursa.

It passes through these towns: Plymouth, Augusta, Bowen, Mendon, and Ursa.
