Archeologists have to deal with many different stereotypes and perceptions of their work. Movies, books, and archeologists of an earlier time help to build these misconceptions for the public.


Here are some myths revealed about archeologists:

-all real archeologists like to dig
-all real archeologists want to find ‘goodies’
-all real archeologists, to be successful, have to be lucky
-all real archeologists only study the past
-all real archeologists are white, male and macho
-all real archeologists (when not digging) live in ivory towers and what they do makes little difference to anyone, good or ill
