Calling of St. Matthew

Saint Matthew is confronted by Jesus Christ (the pointing man) who is summoning him, hence, the name of the painting, The Calling of St. Matthew. It was a dramatic reenactment of Jesus Christ, with the halo above his head, calling upon the tax collector, Levi, who would later be known as Saint Matthew. Levi is counting up his coins with his four associates as Jesus walks in and points at St. Matthew in about the same way as Michelangelo depicted Adam reaching for the hand of God in the Creation of Adam on the roof of the Sistine Chapel. There's a light that's being casted right above Jesus Christ's head aimed towards Levi / St. Matthew. Although the light is being casted from the far right, the window above the five people at the table is open, yet still dark and unable to view anything through. This is a representative of the blocked off and unknown manneristic times. The temperature of the painting if a very warm yellowish and orangish. Next Picture
