BUT you must do it in a SMART manner or you're going to be terribly hurt. And you must do it in a SAFE manner. You must not only think of your own safety, but also the safety of any children living at home with you. The following advice, suggestions, web sites, and guidelines will help you to unmask the online players. UNMASKING THE PLAYERS: NEVER divulge how you uncovered your player to be a player. We want to make it harder for them to con others, NOT make it harder for other women to also expose them. If your player demands to know how you found him out, just tell him "I have my sources" and refuse to say any more ... and let him wonder -- and worry. heh heh And from another story:
Story from a newspaper:
THE MORAL: NOTE: ALL THE BELOW SCENARIOS ARE NOT CONCLUSIVE INTERNET FAKE ID'S ~~ FALSE PROFILES
If players find having 'no profile' works against them, then they will make up a phony profile with no location or a vague location. Some ludicrous stories you will hear in regard to not stating a location OR for not having a profile: had witnessed something between members of the Mafia or etc. and had testified against them in court. As a result, was put into the Witness Protection Program. works in a federal government job and thus cannot discuss his location OR job works for the FBI or the CIA or the DEA, or Military Intelligence, etc. and is working undercover or is on a mission, etc. (These are the DUMBEST of stories. If you're on a mission or etc., no way would you be allowed to be gallivanting on the Internet.) I'm in the process of a divorce and don't want my soon-to-be ex to be able to find me online, etc. OR they may list a false city. A false location can be a really dumb mistake on their part because you can so easily trip them up. If you know of someone who lives in the same location, they can supply you with questions to ask for tripping him up. If not, use the below suggested questions for finding out if BOTH he and his profile are phonies. Suggested questions to verify the city he says he lives in: Ask him what's his favorite restaurant. If he "brb's" you with "I got another IM", or "I got a phone call", or "someone's at the door", etc., you can bet he's going to the web, or another source, to find the name of a restaurant. Or he may say he has to sign off and not sign back on until the next day, hoping the topic has been dropped. ASK HIM AGAIN. <grin> If he gives you a name, then ask him what type of cuisine they serve.
~ OR ~ SMARTpages: The online yellow pages directory of business listings If you have no luck, CLICK on 'more search options' and try those methods. Zip code is not necessary IMPORTANT: Generally, you need to spell out the full city name, without any abbreviations (type Los Angeles instead of just LA, and type Mount Kisco instead of Mt. Kisco). You can type in the two-letter state abbreviation (OK), the full name of the state (Oklahoma), or the first few letters (Okla). If he's a golfer, ask him which golf course he plays on. If he gives you the lame answer of "I play on all of them", DUH ... every golfer has a favorite course. Or if he fishes, what lake/river does he fish at? If he boats, where does he go boating and moor his boat? If he bowls, what bowling alley? You get the idea. Use the above methods to verify what he tells you. Ask him what part of town he lives in ... north, east, south, west? Then ask him a trickier question: which mall he goes to for shopping? If he's single, then he has to shop for himself. Ask him if that mall is in the same part of town as he is. Was there any hesitation in answering? Did he give you a vague answer? Or did he 'brb' with "I got a phone call" or etc.
CLAIMS TO LIVE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY, says he's a bull fighter in Spain. A fabrication very easy to expose. Simply ask him what time it is in his country. Then use one of the below web sites to see if he gave you an accurate time. He should be able to give you an immediate answer by glancing at the time on his computer or watch. BUT, if there's a long pause before he answers, he probably used a web site to find the time. These sites use military time ... 10:23 means it's 10:23 a.m. But for 10:23 p.m., it's listed as 22:23.HELPFUL HINT: For civilian PM time, just subtract 12 from the time stated. These web sites also gives the time in US cities. <wink> RE: PROFILE OCCUPATION Many players claim to own their own business ... they use that fabrication as BAIT [ which we women are to translate as "I'm a good catch" ] ... or claim to be an attorney or other high-paid professional. SAYS HE OWNS HIS OWN BUSINESS Mix in some small talk about business as you ask him these questions or you may put him on guard: [ TAKE NOTES, don't trust your memory ] Ask the name of his business? What type of business is it? Does he have any partners? If he asks why you're asking, say that you thought he would like to talk about his business because he made a point of owning his own business on his profile Use the below web sites to find if such a company exists: AT&T Help/Search: Directories (Reverse Lookup) SMARTpages: The online yellow pages directory of business listings Reverse Lookup - InfoSpace if he gives you his business phone number, use the 'reverse look-up' feature Bottom-line: the same as we women, men want to be loved for themselves, NOT their assets; therefore, no reasonable man would advertise his financial status ... Plus, that's an open invitation to credit card hackers, con artists, gold-diggers, burgulars, etc. Think about it! TIP SENT IN TO US
SAYS HE'S A LAWYER Again, using small talk and taking notes, work these questions in: what law firm is he with? Which branch of the law does his firm specialize in (practice area)? Which law school did he receive his law degree? Use the below web sites to see if what he told you is true. Again, if he asks why you're asking these questions, say because he made a point of being a lawyer on his profile, you felt he would want to talk about his work. If he comes back with "I really don't want to talk about my profession", scratch him off and move on. He's either a phony or got something to hide. The Legal Source Just follow the instructions. NOTE: You do not have to know his first name or Firm -- not important. TYPE in city; TYPE in practice area, if you know (not really that important, just cuts down the size of the listing),CLICK on STATE, CLICK on SEARCH. If you don't have a first name, it will provide you with an alphabetical listing of all the lawyers with that last name in that location. what firm they are with the firm's address what is their practice area. click on their name and it will list what school(s) they attended and graduated, their birth date, etc Law School Directory - an alphabetical list of U.S. law schools SAYS HE'S A DOCTOR Find a Doctor using The Doctor Directory's Physician Directory and Doctor Search ~ AND/OR ~ Click-411.com. Find a Doctor CLICK on his field of medicine in Select Specialty, CHANGE United States, if he lives in another country IMPORTANT TIP: testing this site, at first a staff member had trouble finding one of her doctors. By leaving out his FIRST name, we were able to locate him. We found out it was because he's listed under his first name but goes by his middle name. If you don't find your doctor listed, then check under the name of the suburb instead of the major city. Also, many doctors practice in more than one field of medicine. If he's not found under one "specialty", look under his other field(s) of medicine. CLICK ON PAGE 2 FOR EXPOSING PHONY: MILITARY OFFICERS - |
