AMY BROWN - A LOVE AFFAIR WITH FAERIES

Pacific Northwest artist, Amy Brown was born in Bellingham, Washington in 1972. As a child she spent countless hours drawing faery princesses (and occasionally hotrods with her younger brother) at an old, dark wood table in the living room of the beach cabin her parents rented. At an early age she was introduced to the faery paintings of Brian Froud and Alan Lee, and was absolutely absorbed in the magic of the work. This was the seed that ultimately sprouted into her love for the Fae. "I try to keep things simple so the viewer's eyes and mind are allowed to create their own reality. Every viewer has a different story to go with what they see. Often they pick up on things in the paintings that I never even realized were there..."

Susan Morgan Bosler--Spirithunter wrote about Amy, "Come to the extraordinary world of fantasy created by an incredible Artist named Amy Brown. If you have ever been pixieled or are Fae at Heart then you have most probably seen her incredible artwork. Ms. Brown lives in the enchanting Pacific Northwest, where she started painting about seven years ago. She shows and sells her works locally as well as on the internet. Her favorite mediums are watercolor, colored pencil, gouache and ink. She specializes in the Fae and admits that "they hold my attention completely." She names Brian Froud, fantasy artist, as her biggest inspiration. Like Froud, one day she wants to design creatures for movies. Ms. Brown is "absolutely" taken with medieval and Renaissance costuming and loves re-creating their style in her works.

Clearly, when viewing Ms. Brown's artwork her love of fantasy books, movies and art is evident. In a single work she can create an entire universe and hold the viewer taking him or her to a place filled with romance, whimsy and adventure. Her works are at once delicate and invoking. She has an eye for the unseen and a gift for seeing magic all around us. Ms. Brown markets her artwork in prints to the public at her own website where you can virtually walk through her galleries of prints. I encourage you to visit her galleries and treat yourself or someone you know, who has a love of "Faery" to one or more of her beautiful works.
