SANDRA M.STANTON, MYTHIC ARTIST
A painter for over 30 years, Sandra Stanton started working with Goddess mythology in the mid 1980's. The models for the Goddesses are friends and acquaintances painted the way they are in real life. She includes artifacts connected with the particular Goddess and her culture and documents them along with the myth. Most of the Goddesses are portrayed with their animal companions and emphasize the bond between women and their fellow creatures. The paintings are realistically done in oils using an Old Master's technique with underpainting and varnish glazes built up over it and take a few months to complete.
Her work has been widely exhibited in this country and internationally and has been published in a number of magazines and books. Amber Lotus in San Francisco publishes her work as The Divine Feminine series in the form of a journal, an annual calendar and notecards. Great Goddess Press in Portland, Maine has recently published The Goddess Wisdom Cards, a deck of 39 cards with Sandra's paintings. All of her work emphasizes the power of women and the beauty of multi-culturalism.
