Phantom Décor

Once there were three sisters who were very much in love with The Phantom of the Opera. They each decorated their bedrooms as the ultimate expression of that love. I leave it to you dear reader, to decide if each sister’s choice was foolish or wise.

The first sister loved the color black. She had black curtains with white backings that were topped with stylish masks. Her vanity had a black skirt and was topped with mementos from the musical. She had cunningly covered these items with a glass tabletop to protect them from damage.

All her other accents were black as well; the bed covers and sheets, the towers where her Phantom items were stored. It was a wonder she hadn’t painted the walls and ceiling black. Combined with the black-based musical posters that covered the walls the décor bleached all but the richest colors.

The second sister, also loved black, but she used a much broader color palate. Her towers were a cheery yellow, and her curtains a refreshing white lace. She moved the masks from their posts as curtain toppers to points around the room to form bright splashes of white where she needed them. The accents in the room included golden wall sconces and brightly colored bouquets of silk roses.

She used bright accents such as a white vase to make the darker corners of her room come alive. She made sure to have plenty of light, going so far as to put strings of lights on her towers. The overall effect was to make all the blacks of her posters, music boxes and whatnot to sparkle and pop. It also helped to bring out all the other colors on in her collection including the light blues and pastels.

The third sister was much like the others, but she included many non-Phantom items in her room. She had a great love of the country so many of her accents were simple, such as braided rugs. She had hand-sewn flags, and items by local craftsman. She even went so far as to have places in her room with no Phantom items at all. Her room looked like a charming country room with Phantom accents.

Moral: Consider your existing palate. Try to harmonize with what you have and you’ll be pleased with the effect. Also try to stay in your own decorating taste. If you like the country look, pick pieces that compliment it.
