This is My Story
Above is the Ship I served on from
1958 to 1960
I was born on August
the 13th on a Friday, the proverbial second son of a second son. I
started drinking when I was about seventeen. You might say I was an
alcoholic, it was so bad that no one knew I was a drunk till the day
I stopped drinking. I joined the Navy things got even worse; did you
ever hear the old saying (like a drunken sailor)? That was me.
I would drink while I drove
from bar to bar; I was not really enjoying it. It came to a point
that my friends and I would go from bar to bar to start a bar fight,
I thank God that no one was killed or enjured seriously. At times on
Sunday while others were seeking God I would be in a bar drinking
tomato juice and beer for my breakfast. I had a vicious temper and
was always looking for a fight. My mouth was like an open sewer with
the language I spoke, you would call it fluent profanity. I thought I
would live forever till one day my best friend died in a freak
accident, then I knew that life was temporary and death was just a
heart beat away: I asked myself if I died right now where would I
spend eternity. I knew that there was a God out there somewhere and
that He had something better for me. The Bible says John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life". I knew I would spend eternity
somewhere, either with God or in the other place, yes there is
another place.
What I'm going to write is not to lift me up but
to let you know that God was the one to receive all the credit for
saving me, in fact He spoke to my heart one day after I was saved and
said "Rejoice not because you have chosen me but that I have
chosen you", is He is calling you like He called me, He started
to draw me like He is drawing you, He is choosing you like He choose
me; because no one can come to the Son unless the Father draw him:
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the
Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the
last day.
God through His mercy and grace began to
change my heart, He wasn't lost; I was, He gave me a hunger that only
He could satisfy. I could not save myself and and even if I didn't
know it I was hopelessly lost, God loved me while I was a sinner. I
did not have the to power or have to get good to go to Him, so I had
to go to Him to get the strength. When I realized how lost I really
was: I called out; Jesus
help me!!!! And He did!!!!
Now back to my story. He gave me such a
hunger that I began to study the Bible: to find out who this God was,
to learn all I could about Him and what His plan of salvation was.
Faith is a gift of God and He will reward you if you seek Him with
all your heart;
Hebrews 11:6 "But
without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to
God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek him."
I am an electrician by trade so I studied
the Bible like I would the National Electrical Code Book, which says
that there are no contradictions each article complements the other.
The Code book gives the minimum you need to prevent fires and other
hazards, to protect property and save lives.
I was so hungry that I studied the Bible
from cover to cover. I did this over and over again for two years.
And One thing His Word has showed me is that a person cannot be half
wrong and still be right . Don't take my word for it. Study the
Scriptures and see if what I say is true. Like those in Berea. Only
in the Bible will you find the living God and His plan,
if you ask Him to guide you in His truth!!! We must be like those of Berea.
Acts 17:
10 ¶ And the brethren immediately sent away
Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the
synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in
Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness
of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 Therefore many of them believed; also of
honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
We will study line upon line, to find the salvation message,
and see how the name of Jesus Christ is used.
Isaiah 28:
9 ¶ Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom
shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the
milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept
upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and
there a little:
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will
he speak to this people.
12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye
may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they
would not hear.
13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept
upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line;
here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall
backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
14 ¶ Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye
scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant
with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the
overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us:
for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay
in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner
stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and
righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the
refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be
disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when
the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden
down by it.
I don't know where you are in your walk
with God but: I was 46 years old and the way I was living I had a
covenant with death, and with hell, till I found the foundation stone
which is Jesus Christ, and the water of the Word of God was used to
sweep away the refuge of lies, and washed away tradition of men and
revealed what the Apostles, and prophets preached, I found the plan
of salvation, and obeyed the gospel and now I am free from the sin
that bound me. I am no longer a servant of sin. The message the
Apostles preached is so simple if you will just open your heart with
prayer and ask the Lord of Glory to guide you in His truth.
What I found in my study in the Bible was
what the Apostles preached in the Book of Acts, they preached to the
Jews, the Samaritans, and to the Gentiles, Paul preached to the
Church at Ephesus, and all had something in common. No other place in
the Bible can we find what the Apostles told the people to do. No
other place in the Bible are Jesus' orders not only explained but
were carried out. What ever you do please study what I found and
wrote about what happens when you are baptized. You will see what
someone will do to hide, wash down the importance of baptism.
While after two years of study I received
the gift of the Holy Ghost the same way they did in the Bible, and
now I want to help you find and receive what the Bible has for you
also. The Bible says speaking about the Holy Ghost in Acts 2:39 For
the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are
afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Like
it says in Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape,
if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be
spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him.
Many say that the Plan of salvation has
changed and is not the same as in the BOOK of Acts, only believe that
you believe. Yes you must believe but your belief will cause you to
do something besides believe, you must see and know what the first
century church did: we are still in the Church of Jesus Christ. So
now that we are coming close to the end of time, we must make sure
that we are in the Church of Jesus Christ, that we are as the five
wise virgins:
Matthew 25:
1 ¶ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be
likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to
meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took
no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
What
the Gospel is!!!
