My Thoughts On Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Cool, huh?

Here is a little review of my thoughts about book five, in case you were wondering. The first paragraph (after this one) I will make safe for all eyes, but after that if you haven't finished the book, I suggest closing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears, saying "La la la" very loudly, and getting someone else to click the website back to the main page. They'll probably be glad to if you promise to stop saying "La la la." The difficulty will be communicating to them what they have to do while "La la la"-ing with your eyes shut and your fingers in your ears. Anyway, if you have finished the book, feel free to read on to the end, and beyond, if you can find a way. And no matter who you are, never forget to read between the lines.

So if you haven't read the book, and are looking here to see if you should, you're very silly, because of course you know I'm going to tell you you should do so before you do anything else, including breathe. If you're reading this because you haven't read the book and want a little heads up, this is the paragraph for you. Overall, the book was rather good, although ranking it among the others I personally wouldn't put it very high. This is mainly because it is not as intricate in terms of plot as the first four books, and lacks the plot twists and turns that make the series so fun to read. That is not to say this book isn't fun to read. But it is, less because of the plot, although there are still a few fun elements and interesting events, as well as hilarious one-liners and situations, and more because you learn so much you could only ever guess at about Harry's past and Voldemort's motives and such. One warning, though. Harry gets a little annoying in this one. Cut him some slack, though. He's only fifteen. Ok, that's about it for you who haven't read the book. It's La la time. Everyone else, full steam ahead.

Was it just me, or was everyone incredibly tetchy in book five? Well, maybe not everyone. It was mostly Harry and Sirius, although Ron succumbed to it too every now and again, and Cho Chang wasn't exactly a pillar of strength and composure either. I guess it was to be expected based on the time of life they're all entering now, and it probably irks me a little more than usual because I'm just coming out of that whole stage and thus have a heightened sensitivity against it. And, on the bright side, it did allow us to really see the superb diplomacy of Hermione and Lupin. We also really got to see how similar they are to one another, which was cool

Not cool, on the other hand, were James and Sirius in the flashback of Snape's memory. I mean, Harry, Ron, and Hermione have their battle against Draco, and they can be pretty snippy and throw the occassional jinx, but they're never deliberately and unprovokedly cruel. It was quite a shock, to me at least. And I wonder, as did Harry and I'm sure everyone else, what James did to redeem himself, especially in the eyes of Lily. And what will redeem him in Harry's eyes. Because that needs to happen, doesn't it? And right now he kind of disgusts me.

And then we have Sirius. Rather sad about him dying, although he had gotten so annoying and self-centered by the time he did that it wasn't sad so much for the loss of the character, but rather for the loss to Harry of the closest thing to family he has. I was thinking Lupin was the one to go, since Harry had Sirius now to be the mentor, but I'm glad I got it backwards, because Lupin is a much cooler character. I mean, I don't like to rejoice at death, even that of fictional characters, but if it had to be someone with impact, he's the one I'm least sad to part with.

There were some definitely cool parts of the book. I LOVED the Room of Requirement! I just knew (as did millions of other readers, I know) that Dumbledore's chamberpot room would come in handy. And Ginny emerging from behind her mother's knees to be a real person, just as I predicted, was excellent as well. I'm glad she turned out to be so strong.

And Fred and George definitely rocked book five. Their fireworks were hilarious, as were the reactions of all the teachers, refusing to help eliminate them because "I didn't know if I had the AUTHORITY." Hee! Very cool.

O.W.L.s were fun, Dumbledore and his Army were glorious, I loved the paper airplane Ministry Memos, Tonks was very cool and I hope we see more of her, I was glad we got to revisit poor old Lockhart, and Rita Skeeter, and I can't wait to read what happens next. When is book six coming out, again?
