Books To Read While You Wait If you like to read, you can be cool like Hermione!

The terribly tragic thing about such well-written books as the Harry Potter books is that they take a long time to write. So what to do when you've read the latest Harry Potter book seventeen times and you parents have finally taken it away and it's only been a week since it came out and you still have a whole year or two until the next one appears? Well, don't fret! There are a whole number of excellent books you can read in the meantime. So here's a list of the ones I recommend for those long dark potterless nights:

My current favorite book is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. It is excellent. It's beautiful. Read it.

Next, Ender's Game, and the ensuing series, by Orson Scott Card, is INCREDIBLY excellent! They're sci-fi-ish, but not too much so, and they're about a boy (Ender) who's very smart and a pretty cool guy, who is sent up to Battle School, which is on a Space Shuttle-like machine in orbit around the Earth. Otherwise, it's hard to explain or categorize, but I definitely recommend it, even if you think you don't like sci-fi.

I just finished reading all the available books of A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket, the first of which is entitled the Bad Beginning. They are wonderfully terrible books about three perfectly good, bright, and charming children to whom a succession of bad things of varying degrees happen. Very, very excellent, and I even saw them recommended by Emma Watson in a magazine, so yes. Read them!

Also very good is the Anne of Green Gables series... I recently rediscovered these books, and I'd forgotten just how excellent they were! They're really very good, quite magical in their own way...

Naturally I am in love (call it obsession...) with the Harry Potter series, and wait anxiously for the next one to come out (Hurray for book 5!). However, it would surprise most of you to know (except Liz 2, who worthily earned the right to be "Just Liz," by finally coming to the site) that I am also waiting for the next book to come out in two other series. The first series is called the Left Behind series. That's the title of the first book, the second is Tribulation Force, the third Nicolae, the fourth Soul Harvest, the fifth Appolyon, and the sixth Assasins. The seventh, Indwelling, recently came out, and I think the eighth one is now out, too... The next one is due sometime in the next year. They are basically about the apocalypse and the end of the world according to Revelations, the last chapter of the Bible. They are incredibly good. They're by J. Jenkins and T. Lahaye, and I recommend them to basically anyone. If you are Christian there is an added treat because it really helps you to interpret the figuratively put book of Revelations, as well as a lot of other things.

The next series is so far composed of three books, The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, which are by Phillip Pullman. If you enjoyed the Harry Potter books you will probably like these; although they are slightly longer and more adult-oriented (meaninglike 15 and up will most enjoy them, although I've certainly talked to younger people who loved them... They are magical fantasy like the Harry Potter books, and they're basically about different dimensions of space and time, and ha! to the people who mock my parallel worlds, because NASA agrees with me, so there

I am also, at this very moment, actually, whenever I have to wait for the slow computer to do something and, to a lesser extent, the slow internet, rereading (no, that is not a typo, I am reading for the second time..) (man is this sentence getting long and fragmented. I bet you don't even remember what it was about. Do you? Ha! Better go back and read it again...) the Narnia series, which begins with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (all one title...). Finally, that sentence is over! Well, the books are by C.S. Lewis and most people have read them or seen the movie, but I wonder if they all understand the religious implications... Anyway, at least that's one series where I know all the books are already written. I also suggest any other books by C. S. Lewis, like the Screwtape Letters, for instance.

For my younger readers, of which I probably have very few, I recommend Matilda, by Roald Dahl. That was pretty much my favorite book for most of elementary school. Man, did I try soooo hard to lift things with MY mind. Never worked...

Let's see, for the random among you, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller (or Keller?) is pretty much the randomest book ever. It is just my style. This is for those of you who, like me, frequently cut out the Peanuts comics with Linus drawing pictures in class which were so random and FUNNY.

Hm, I'm also reading the Foundation series (gotta love the series, eh, L2?) by Isaac Asimov and reccommend (man, how DO you spell that? I've misspelled it this whole page, haven't I? Oh, well.) the Hitch-hikers Guide Trilogy by Douglass Adams (which consists of 5 books (ha ha. That's funny, because a trilogy means it has three books. This is a satire of sci-fi and very funny. Hence the humor of calling itself a trilogy. Ha. ha.)) for those who like not-too-hard-core-sci-fi, as I do, and for those who know what that means. I also love Ray Bradbury. Although his poetry seems just a tad hallucinogenic-induced...

I'm working currently on compiling a list of books to read (if you're a child, or to have your child read, or whatever) in order to become me, so that should be up here eventually... And of course, don't forget you can always reread the Harry potter books countless times... And now we've got the movie to look forward to! So don't despair! And if you feel like despairing, visit the Doctor!

OK, guys, when you're done with all these, lemme know. There will be a test... (hurrah, FINALS (dun dun duuuun) are FINALly over, and I have NO homework (momentarily) so I am peacefully seizing the moment to enjoy myself and catch up on this here website.)
