Possible Romances in Book Six

Harry and Hermione~

This is the area of biggest controversy, I think. And I'm still sticking to my story that this isn't going to happen, no matter how much people say it is. Because it isn't going to happen until Ron and Hermione have at least given it a shot, and if it happens then, it will just be another example of Harry getting everything Ron wants, and that would just be too sad. So I think not. But there are those who claim it as a possibility, and I won't rain on their parade, because we'll never truly know until we see it in one of the books.

Ron and Hermione~

Now this one is a pairing whose time is swift approaching. I was quite surprised that Rowling didn't go here in the fifth book, based on the heightened pitch of the R-H hints in the fourth. Instead, the hints simply toned down a bit (although they were still present, most notably in Ron's confusion after Hermione kissing him before his first Quidditch match, his jealousy about her lengthy letter to Krum, and their continuing bickering. But I still maintain that it is only a matter of time until Ron at last realizes what I think Hermione is already aware of but too discreet to draw attention to, namely Ron's attraction to her. The question, and a rather good one, is what will Hermione do about it? This is harder to foretell. If I had to guess, I'd say she gives it a shot, although as to whether it will work out or not I won't even hazard a venture. And maybe Rowling is waiting until book seven to bring this into the open, but she's hinted at it so much I don't see how she can wait much longer.

Harry and Ginny~

Well well well. As I predicted, Ginny has shown beyond doubt that she, unlike Cho, is a girl worthy of Harry's affections. Nothing against Cho or anything. But Ginny in book five rocks. Of course, by now she has "given up on" Harry, and dates first Michael Corner, then "chooses" Dean Thomas (I'm not sure yet if this means they're dating or merely that she's chosen to like him, but I'd guess the former), but I think this is all a smokescreen to that which has been inevitable since the first book. This relationship, though, I can see Rowling waiting until the final book to bring to fruition, so I'd guess that in the sixth book we don't quite get here yet.

Harry and Cho~

I think, thank goodness, this one is dead and gone. It had to happen, because Harry's been interested in her for so long, even if only to show Harry that she isn't the one for him. I mean, he had to have a few failed relationships before he hit one that worked out. But I think Cho will vanish to the sidelines from now on. I guess I could be wrong, though. I'm sure she still has some admiration for Harry, and she was a member of Dumbledore's Army and could be a part of the battle against Voldemort. So we'll see. But I don't think we'll see the two of them getting back together.

Ron and Luna~

Now, hear me out. She knows Ron went to the Yule Ball with Padma, and that she didn't particularly enjoy it. She laughs really rather ridiculously hard at Ron's joke about Goyle doing lines. She offers to carry Pigwidgeon when they get off the Hogwarts Express. And she wishes him good luck before the first Quidditch match. (aysegul cekic also notes she was singing "Weasley is Our King" dreamily under her breath in the Three Broomsticks while Rita interviewed Harry--thanks!) Subtle clues, but there they are, and I don't think they're for naught. I think we might see this sneak up on Ron, and if it does I don't think he'll be quick enough to avoid it. But what will come of it, or what implications it will have for the in my opinion inevitable Ron-Hermione couple, I can't think. Maybe Luna will make a move on Ron and that will finally make him realize how much he clearly like Hermione. He sure is thick about it, isn't he?

Harry and Luna~

This has been suggested because of how well they were getting along at the end of book five, and how she was the only one Harry felt comfortable talking to after Sirius died. My personal opinion is Rowling hinted too much towards Luna and Ron for Luna and Harry to happen, although I bet we'll see a good, strong friendship developing here over Harry and Luna's bond.

Hermione and Krum~

Well, I don't think we'll see too much more develope of this besides penpalhood, although I guess it could. But he lives so far away, and they aren't really suited, so I doubt it will serve as anything more than a foil to reveal Ron's like for her.

Hermione and Neville~

Well, if Ron's going to have a pre-Ron-Hermione fling, I guess Hermione should as well. If one doesn't already count Krum. And I don't know that I can think of anyone else. Why not Neville? He did ask her to the Yule Ball. I don't know, I don't have any reasons to suspect this one, but it's as much a possibility as anything else. Maybe Rowling is trying to hold off on all the "right" pairings (Harry-Ginny, Hermione-Ron, in my eyes, at least) until the final book. Could be, I s'pose.

Ginny and Dean~

As I said, I don't know if Ginny's comments at the end of the last book imply that she's dating Dean already or just that she fancies him. I'd hope the former, just because I'd rather she not become the "bouncing from boy to boy" type. It would disturb me. So maybe this won't even come to pass at all. I guess Ginny will probably end up in at least one more relationship before Harry, but I hope not too many more than that.

Ginny and Neville~

A lot of people favor this idea, because Ginny and Neville are kind of the peripheral friends of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and because of this people think they deserve each other. I disagree. But I think maybe we will see Neville finding somebody in the next book or so, and maybe it could be Ginny for a while, at least...

Cho and Roger Davies~

Roger does seem to be the ladies man of Hogwarts, and he did ask Cho out at one point, acoording to her, and she is kind of doing the rebound rounds. So we may see this happening. I don't think Harry would care too much, and maybe him seeing this and realizing how little it bothers him will make him realize how little he cares. And then maybe he'll eschew relationships altogether for the next book, clearing the way for Ron and Hermione to enter the romance ring, if not with each other then with whatever random other people, and then he'll end up with Ginny in book seven. Sorry, don't mean to harp too too much on my theories for the ultimate "meant to be" couples.

Fleur and Bill~

This started in book five, and could potentially continue. Not that it would affect anything much.

Harry and Tonks~

Hey, you never know.
