That's right, the toys are back in town for the new Disney sequel to the 1995 smash hit Toy Story. From Pixar Studios, whose computer animation has created the first Toy Story film and 1998's A Bug's Life, comes the long awaited theatrical sequel TOY STORY 2. Back is the crew of the original film, which it's tough to believe was released in theaters almost four years. Tom Hanks returns to voice Woody, the classic pull-string cowboy. In Toy Story, Woody learned to accept other toys his owner Andy liked, rather than feeling threatened by them. And Tim Allen will once again provide the voice for Buzz Lightyear. Also back to lend their voices are Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head), Jim Varney (Slinky Dog), Wallace Shawn (Rex), John Ratzenberger (Hamm), and Annie Potts as Bo Peep. Director John Lasseter also returns to direct this film which was originally supposed to be a direct-to-video release.
In the sequel the toys have to rescue Woody, who has been stolen by a toy collector (voiced by Seinfeld's Wayne Knight), while Andy is away at summer camp. Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Hamm, Slinky, and the rest of the toy gang have to band together to do everything they can to get Woody back.
Well, the film is here and it's been receiving nothing but rave reviews. Check out the official Toy Story 2 website for trailers, a game, information, and other special features. The first trailer is a one-minute teaser trailer for the film which aired before some showings of Disney's summer animation film Tarzan. The second one is more recent and focuses more on the plot. The first trailer doesn't contain much footage from the film, but it is very cool and it downloads quickly, so check it out. With the release date here, Disney is not likely going to add much more to their official site. It is a fun site but a little disappointing considering the film is computer-animated. Pixar, the masters of computers, didn't even bother to make a website. I certainly expected more from the official sites. As we awaited this much-anticipated sequel, this site feature a gadget that counted down until the November 24 release.

These are the two released "Toy Story 2" posters.

As can be expected with all Disney animation films, Toy Story 2 has a bunch of merchandising tie-ins, including two video games. One is a Gameboy Color game (right). The other is for a bunch of systems, including the new Sega Dreamcast system. Toy Story 2 will be one of the films that have the most movie tie-ins of all time. Other tie-ins include figures and dolls from Applause, a McDonald's promotion, many offers from General Mills cereals and Tropicana orange juice, a Toys R' Us contest game, ice cream "bowl buddies" which latch onto a desert bowl, Hallmark Christmas Ornaments, and a point-collection promotion through Baby Ruth candy bars. To purchase some movie-related items, go to the Toy Story 2 section of the Home Improvement Zone Store.

The Toy Story 2 soundtrack is now available to buy. The soundtrack features original songs from Sarah McLaughlin, Robert Goulet, and the Riders in the Sky. In addition, there is music composed by Randy Newman, who provided songs for both Toy Story and Pixar's A Bug's Life. Some of the performer's more memorable songs from the original film were "You've Got a Friend in Me", "Strange Things Are Happening to Me", and from A Bug's Life "Time of Your Life." You can buy the soundtrack on CD by clicking here.

As for other tidbits, it appears that Toy Story 2 will have the fake "Home Improvement"-style blooper credits at the end of the film, like Pixar did for A Bug's Life. At least that what it appears likes from these "on-the-set" pics. In addition to the numerous tie-in promotions, Disney is going all out with billboard ads. They have medium-sized murals of the characters on Hollywood Blvd. in California. Even larger is the gigantic poster mural of Woody and Buzz on Sunset Boulevard.
