Former
appeals court judge pleads guilty to theft by swindle(Minneapolis-AP)
-- Former Minnesota Court of Appeals judge Roland Amundson
has pleaded guilty to stealing from a mentally retarded
woman's trust fund.
Amundson
was charged with five felony counts of theft by swindle
for stealing more than 300-thousand dollars from the fund
he oversaw.
Amundson resigned from the
appeals court the day before he was charged in February.
He entered his plea today before Hennepin County Judge Richard
Hopper.
Prosecutors say Amundson took
the money from the trust to buy sculptures, marble floors
and other extravagances. His attorney has said Amundson
was suffering from depression.
Amundson has repaid a substantial
amount of the money he took, but the court asked the county
attorney's office to determine what the full amount of restitution
should be.
Sentencing is set for May 22nd.
