The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is a very gentle animal, especially with children. I have read on other sites that the dog has actually woken up the children for play time.
The dog is very alert, making it a very effective watch dog. The Entlebucher is not a yappy dog. When you hear an Entlebucher barking, something is going on.
The dog is very adaptable to different kinds of environments, however at least an hour a day must be set aside for play time. The dog is easily bored by sitting around the house, and always loves to play fetch, or go for a swim.
Besides being very alert, it is also a very intelligent dog. Training the dog is easy if done properly. The dog typically is trained best on a reward system vs. a punishment-based setting, but some consequences must be carried out, for example, for housebreaking the dog (Which, by the way, is also very easy to do.) As far as I can remember, it took 1 or 2 accidents, and it was done.
In conclusion, this dog is truly fun to be around. A day with an Entlebucher will never be boring.
