The telephone rings in the middle of the night He answers while only half awake Another fire there is to fight Is there no rest for goodness sakes He gathers his stuff and out the door he flies Shaking the cobwebs still in his head Off to the station he knows he must go For what lays ahead he can only dread He pulls into the station and the engines are already running As some had arrived before he got there Meeting with the chief and deciding the course of action Knowing that there was no time to spare Onto the trucks and to the scene they will go Fastening on their equipment while they can Arriving at the scene they see the blaze they have to fight They know that they will need every able bodied man The building is a blaze, lighting up the dark night sky With it's ominous glow of red The only hope in each of their hearts is that no one will be found, by them, dead The hoses are hooked and through them the water is flowing As they grab and point them towards each flame Shooting for a certain spot that will do the most good From their training they know that this must be their aim Now the water is flying and the fire is being beat As they all work together as a team They are out there in all types of weather And sometimes for days or so it does seem Finally the blaze is out and the fire is gone As smoke from the rubble fills the air But the property surely was not a total loss And in this, all their happiness, they can now share Thankful no one has lost their life here today And in this they surely should be proud Now they can show pride in what they have done As witnessed by a real large crowd Now they load up their equipment and back to the Fire Station They go in vehicles in which they came No one knows who these brave men are As no one has even asked them their names After the equipment is all put away, as it was from the start Back to their homes and for more rest they can go They do not know how long before the next alarm And off to fight another unknown blaze they will go They do not do this job for glory or thanks But mostly for their own personal satisfaction They boast not of deeds of which they have done They are known only for swift and professional action So now when you see these men and their engines With sirens blaring out loud as they roll Do not hesitate to pull over out of their way Because they are on a really important call For any delay that may be caused to them on their way May make a difference of beating the blaze So when you see a fire fighter, thank them when you can Because they have pride and are professional in all they do And they care about you right down to the very last man
They are seen bustling all around the crowded halls Answering each and every one of the patients calls Feeling the anguish for all the ones brought in Hoping some day that they will be able to see them leave again They are always wearing what seems to be a permanent smile As they take in each concern with a professional style They man their stations both day and night For everyones life they are ready to fight A patient rings and summons their assistance They are off to answer, in one swift instance They give out information as the needs do arise Prolonging ones life is their only wishful prize At times their numbers are spread real thin But they keep pushing ahead, refusing to give in Emergencies may come when they least expect it But they all pull together and fight right through it For doing their jobs rewards are few But they are still there everyday for me and you Their attitude is gentle even when they are filled with concern Being there to help, each taking their turn A warm "Thank You" from one that departs Is something that is felt way down in their hearts This profession is one that we will always need These people are one's from a forever giving breed From the tests, questions, pills and filling requests that we've had They do their best and never get mad Now there is something, from my heart, I would like to say "Thanks for making ours an enjoyable stay"
This is a profession that is loyal and true These men and women are assigned to protect you As you lay your heads down to sleep for the night Out there on the streets the crimes they fight They are at work every day of the year This, so you will have nothing to fear Holidays and weekends are just another day They sure won't get rich on their weekly pay Their shifts are long and sometimes exciting But when they are bored, to do, they will find something A dispatcher covers the Headquarters twenty-four hours a day Answering all calls with courtesy, that come their way They are there to answer your every call No matter how trivial they answer them all They listen carefully to your total complaint Sometimes they must use great restraint They may ask a seemingly meaningless question But to them this helps choose the best course of action The jobs they have are not all peaches and cream Even though, to you, this does certainly seem They are out there in all types of weather Taking care of the crimes and making us safer They must answer calls of an untimely death Sometimes it is friends who have taken their last breath They stand there firm as no emotion can they show But deep inside they are hurting, this you don't know Out in the pouring rain their slickers get wet The job isn't finished, they can't quit yet The sun beats down on them bright and hot But still they chase the criminal until they are caught In the cold of the winter during the ice and snow Making sure the one's that are stuck, receive a tow They receive a call there has been an accident Off to the scene they are swiftly sent They arrive on the scene with their hopes running high It is a real bad one, they hope nobody will die The cars are all crumbled and badly bent For you, a wrecker, they have gladly sent From the scene the information they try and collect To make the case as true as you would expect You see them traveling up and down the road With their blue lights flashing, yes running code They direct traffic and keep it at an even flow So you can get to where you want, when you want to go Out on the streets for violators they seek But soft hearted enough to lend a hand to the meek They answer any question that you might ask They are there performing many a task They stand by the entrance, in front of the school Standing in a breeze, that sometimes is cool The kids enjoy this and think it is neat Allowing them to safely cross the street At the school they are there for functions and games Hardly anyone in town can recall their names Now as the weather permits and outside you go You see them around you should let them know That the job that they do means a lot to you The comments like this means a lot to you The comments like this means a lot to them too Now as another day ends and you lay down your heads Remember they said you have nothing to dread Though in their numbers they may only be a few They are there, day after day, protecting you For your compliments and thanks they never ask As they take all their duties as assigned tasks And as they are harassed by a certain few They have been called names like pig too Now to them this word means only one thing PATIENCE-INTEGRITY-GUTS is their meaning
They may receive the call all hours of the day They grab up their equipment and head on their way They have been summoned as someone's life lays in the balance And they will save it if given the chance They arrive upon the scene not knowing what to expect But no matter what the problem, the public they will protect Whether it is an old person, frail from all the years Or a small infant in cardiac arrest or so the parents fear They take all the vitals and check them real good Doing their job professionally as all EMTs would They hook up the machines that they use to measure the patients vitals of life They could be working on a husband or even someones loving wife They know that whatever they decide and what information they get The best course of action to take, this them it will let They know that mostly they race against the clock for life And to keep one's going they always strive You will see them often giving CPR to help those who can't get air The pain they see in loved ones around, they certainly do share They know it is hard to watch someone dying that you love And to stop this before it gets to far is with what they are drove Now there is no heartbeat as they hook up the machine This persons heart has gone into arrest or so it seems Now they fight to bring them back and get their heart working right To stabilize this person for transport they certainly now fight They work swiftly over them not hesitating at all They do everything in their power each and every call Finally they get a pulse and each of them with relief they sigh Then inwardly they say thanks to the lord, watching from up high Now they ready this patient to be taken from the scene They don't even care how much time there they had been They then put them on a stretcher and to the ambulance they sped Once inside and all secured, to the hospital they have fled Now they have reached the hospital and delivered the patient inside And for word that they will be all right, they hope for inside They see the doctor coming to them and then he stops to say Thanks for the job you did, they are going to be fine today So looking at each they smile and give out a big sigh Because these are the final results for which they always try Now they can be thankful for the time that they gave As another precious life they were able to save Now it is back to the office to wait until the next call And they will give their everything when they answer them all So these people you see out there saving lives each day You should graciously thank them when they pass your way As they are out there for me and you And they receive very little praise for the important things that they do So if we would take time to pay our respects And be thankful for our lives that they are there to protect So when you see them responding to another call, give them a hand Ask the lord to help them out and pray for that person, where you stand
They teach our children Each and every day Answering questions that they will ask In their very special way They give our children knowledge By planting that important seed Teaching them what they must do To take them where life will lead They teach them tasks and show them how To do certain things that they try They give them the encouragement To reach for the stars in the sky They teach them about history The things that happened long ago They teach them the sciences Showing them how things grow They teach them all about numbers How to divide, multiply, subtract and add To teach them how to tell time and size And if the right amount they had They teach them about music So when full of joy they can sing Filling our ears with pleasant sounds And making all of our hearts ring They teach them about healthy ways For their body, heart, and soul Showing them what is good to eat And what will make them grow They watch as each child does grow And then move along on life's way They watch and beam with happiness AS they see them grow each day They are there to support each child In whatever they may wish to do They can and will get this done
But they need our support too They ask for no praise for what they do And give of themselves each day So take a minute when passing them by And thank them each day For they are the ones that we need the most To help each of our children grow so the thanks that you have for them You need to let them know So in closing I send this poem to you And thank you from the bottom of my heart For the task you have now undertaken And from this I hope you will never depart
