Galatasaray Spor Kulübü - İstanbul
Turkish Football Federation adopted a new average system to break the tying clubs. Instead of using the goal average (the result of dividing the goals for into goals against) starting from this year the goal difference (the result of subtracting the goals against from the goals for) would be used as the first criteria. If the ties still are not broken, then the clubs with more goals for will be placed higher.
Galatasaray became the Turkish League champion for the fifth time after a big race with Eskişehirspor and Fenerbahçe. Eskişehirspor became second scoring goals more than twice of 11 other clubs. They even scored 29 more goals from the champion. He was a definite winner in the new tie-breaking rule for the second place.
Another change was the eligibility of the Turkish clubs to the UEFA Cup. Turkey would send two clubs to the cup next year. Eskişehirspor and Fenerbahçe earned these berths this time.
İstanbulspor and Karşıyaka were relegated.
