         Spent the majority of the season with the Yankees, going 5-6 with a 5.37 ERA in 26 games (21 starts)...was second among American League rookies with 112 K (behind Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia--171)...began the season with Triple-A Columbus but was recalled on 4/22 after making three starts...in his first start as a Yankee established a career-high 10 K on 4/22 vs. Boston, allowing 2 ER in 6.2 IP...was the first double-digit strikeout performance by a pitcher making his first start for the Yankees since Charles Hudson in 1987...recorded his first Major-League win on 4/28 vs. Oakland, allowing 3 ER in 5.2 IP...served six-game suspension (by Major League Baseball) from 8/11-17 after hitting Scott Spiezio with a pitch on 8/5 vs. Anaheim (was not ejected from game)...was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on 8/21 to make room for Orlando Hernandez on the 25-man roster...was recalled on 9/1 after making two starts with Columbus...on 9/26 vs. Tampa Bay, established a career high with 7.2 innings in relief of Andy Pettitte...was the longest relief outing in the Majors since the White Sox' Melido Perez went 7.2 innings on 6/15/91 vs. Kansas City...was 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two stints with Columbus (5 GS, 25.1 IP, 16 H, 8 ER, 8 BB, 30 K).

    2000 Highlights:
         Made seven September relief appearances with the Yankees, going 0-0 with a 5.63 ERA...made his Yankee debut on 9/11 vs. Boston, pitching a perfect ninth inning (1 K) in a 4-0 loss...tossed 3.1 hitless innings of relief (4 BB, 5 K) on 9/29 at Baltimore, the longest relief appearance of his career...began the season on the 15-day disabled list, placed there on 3/25 with tendinitis of the left shoulder...made one rehab start for Class-A Tampa on 4/27, allowing 1 ER in 6.2 IP at St. Petersburg...had rehab transferred to Triple-A Columbus on 5/1, was reinstated from the D.L. and optioned to Columbus on 5/23...spent the majority of the season at Columbus, going 8-11 with a 4.19 ERA in 22 starts...finished second in the International League with 127 K (teammate Brandon Knight led the league with 138 K)...pitched at least 6.0 innings in 16 of his 22 starts...tied a Clippers single-game record with 15 strikeouts on 8/20 vs. Louisville...pitched 8.0 shutout innings without issuing a walk, but did not receive a decision in the Clippers 3-0 loss in 17 innings...was named IL Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of 8/14-20, going 1-0 in two starts without allowing an earned run in 15.0 IP (9 H, 5 BB, 22 K).

    1999 Highlights:
        Was 0-1 with a 7.61 ERA in nine games (three starts) with the Expos in two separate stints at the Major-League level...was first recalled on 5/14 after Shane Andrew was placed on the D.L...made four relief appearances and allowed 4 ER in 4.0 IP before being optioned back to Triple-A on 5/31...was recalled again on 9/7 and after allowing 11 ER in six relief appearances was moved into the starting rotation...in three starts went 0-1 with a 4.58 ERA, striking out 19 batters in 17.2 IP...underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on 10/20 at Montreal's St. Mary's Hospital to repair a small tear in his labrum...enjoyed a solid season a Triple-A Ottawa, going 8-5 with a 3.84 ERA in 16 starts, leading the Lynx staff in wins...was selected as the International League Player-of-the-Week from 5/10-16 after going 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA...was placed on the Ottawa D.L. after his 6/20 start with shoulder tendinitis...did not pitch again until 8/11, throwing three scoreless innings vs. Rochester...made his final start with Ottawa on 9/5 vs. Syracuse, scattering three hits in 7.0 IP.

    1998:
    pitched for three minor league teams in two organizations, combining to go 11-9 with a 3.91 ERA in 29 starts...began the season at Double-A San Antonio, going 8-4 with a 3.30 ERA...after losing his first three decisions, won six straight over an eight start span from April 29-June 5, allowing 11 earned runs in 57.0 innings (1.74 ERA)...was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on July 1 and went 1-3 with a 4.94 ERA in five starts before being acquired by Montreal as part of a seven player trade on July 31...spent the remainder of the season at Triple-A Ottawa...despite receiving the no-decision on August 21 at Pawtucket, set the Lynx franchise record with 13 strikeouts in 7.0 innings...fanned 10 Syracuse Chiefs in 5.2 innings in his last start of the season on September 5...struck out 49 in 39.0 innings during his IL stint...pitched for Arecibo in Puerto Rico at season's end.

    1997:
    spent he entire season at Single-A San Bernardino...was named the California League Pitcher-of-the-Year and was named to the league's post-season All-Star Team after going 7-8 with a 2.81 ERA in 23 games, 21 starts...ranked first in the league in ERA, strikeouts per nine innings (10.7) and opponents batting average (.229)...threw a no-hitter on May 10 vs. Lake Elsinore after missing two weeks because of a back injury...it was the first no-hitter thrown in the league in three years...struck out a season-high 13 vs. Lancaster on July 29...became the first player in California League history to earn Pitcher-of-the-Week honors four times, three times in a one month span...missed the final three weeks of the season with a pinched nerve in his left shoulder...ranked sixth among the Top 10 Prospects in the league by Baseball America.

    1996:
    was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the June 1996 draft...began his pro career with Short-A Yakima...was 4-0 in 13 games, eight starts, and led all short-season minor leaguers with a 0.84 ERA (53.2 ip, 5 er, 75 so)...rated the seventh best prospect in the Dodgers organization by Baseball America.
