Talk to Me
I decided to do a dialogue poem this time. The idea for this one just came to me just like most of my ideas do. I captured an arguing couple over dinner. What I did was description of the food and how the husband and wife are eating it as they shout at each other over various topics. My favorite part is with the veal and the pasta. But yet, the food is a prop in this poem. The real gold is the dialogue itself. The couple is clearly unhappy as they have dinner. To create a sense of irony in the poem, I titled the poem, “Domestic Bliss.” There is clearly nothing blissful about their marriage. They are miserable and wish that the other one would just get hit by a bus. Their actions with the food and their fight speaks their agitation of each ever so clearly. Learning from past poem, I tried to make the conversation clearer to the two different speakers during the argue. In order to make it clear who is talking, I attached actions to the speakers before I wrote down the actual quote. As a result, I think it flows much more even in the poem. This may be one of my favorite poems so far.
