Darren Hayes

Darren does the bands lead and background vocals. He was born on May 8, 1972 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He went to school at Mabel Park High, and now lives in Logan city. He has black hair, and grey/blue eyes, and is 178 cm tall. He has 1 brother and 1 sister. His favourite pastimes include movies, shopping, and surfing the net. His favourite music includes U2 and Sarah McLachlan, and his early musical influences were Prince, The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & Duran Duran. His favourite T.V shows are Seinfeld, Mad About You, Friends, Ellen and The David Letterman Show, and his favourite movies are Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Sling Blade. Darren's favourite songs on the debut album are "Carry On Dancing" & "Santa Monica", although he has said that their newest songs usually become his favourites.

Daniel does Keyboards, Sequencing and Additional Guitar and vocals. He was born on July 22, 1973 in Essex, London, England.
He went to school at Shailer Park High and now lives in Logan city. He has blond hair, blue/green eyes and is 180 cm tall. He has 2 brothers, Jonathan and Oliver. His favourite pastimes include Jet-skiing, and writing music on his laptop. His favourite actors are Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino and Meg Ryan, and his favourite T.V shows are Seinfeld and The Simpsons His favourite music includes George Michael and Sheryl Crow, and his early musical influences were Peter Gabriel, XTC, & Tears For Fears His favourite songs on their debut album are "To The Moon & Back" & "Truly, Madly, Deeply"

The Savage Garden Story

The boys first met in 1993 when Darren answered an ad Daniel had placed in a Brisbane music magazine 'Time Off' for a lead vocalist for the cover band "Red Edge", After about a year, tired of performing other peoples music, Darren & Daniel both left the group and teamed up to try writing their own songs, After trying a couple of names, they ended up calling themselves 'Savage Garden', a name inspired by Anne Rice's vampire novels. They recorded a 5 song demo tape which was sent out to various record companies. John Woodruff, now their manager, heard the tape and signed them up straight away to Roadshow Music. Today they are successful world-wide.

Australia:
The album was released on the 24th March 1997.
It debuted on the National ARIA Charts at Number 1 (this was at the same time TRULY MADLY DEEPLY went to number 1 - a first for any Australian band). It has spent 35 weeks on the ARIA charts, 19 at number 1 (16 of these consecutively), the rest were in teh top 5. At the end of '97 the album had sold 9 times platinum (600,000.
The album went to Number 1 on the New Zealand charts, and at the end of '97 was 4 times.
It was the highest selling Australian album by a group in recording history.

International:
The album went platinum in the USA (1 million), Triple Platinum + in Canada (400,000), and debuted at number 1 on the charts.
Sold 300,000 in Asia & Japan, Went Gold in Taiwan and Platinum in Singapore.
