Just a little glass bubble wrapped with butterflies. I think the "Bubble" was hand blown. The butterflies were all made with (basically) millefiori style canes, so there are numerous wing duplicates.

The Final photo of a Christmas gift for a dear friend. Each scale was an individual hand applied piece. The dragon and base together are between 7 and 9 inches tall. Truly multi media, including glass beads, quartz crystal points, marbles and an aluminum armature.

These creatures are widgets; created from series of sketches and drawings I did over the course of a few years. The original widgets were very similar to these fellows, except that each one bore either a lit candle or a lantern on the end of their curled caps. Widgets were elf-like creatures, given the task of bringing even the smallest gleam of light into dark places. As the drawings evolved into sculptures, the light became more metaphorical, and they lost their lanterns in favor of their (pardon the pun) glowing personalities. The photo above is from a large group of Widgets I created as ornaments around October-November of 2004.

Closeups of some of the Widgets presented above. Note the candy and cookie jars: These are actual tiny glass jars filled with candy and cookies I made from the same polymer clay as the widgets themselves. The red widget wit hthe fruit basket remains one of my all time favorite sculptures, one of only a few pieces that I deliberately kept for myself. Sadly, the original widgets were made of a lower quality poly-clay, he has been broken and repaired multiple times.

This dragon, when I began him, was meant to be a proud guardian of treasure. A creature of might and ferocity rivaled by none. As you can see, that didn't quite work out. So instead we have this (if I do say so myself) adorable little baby dragon who has been sent to bed, and brought down his favorite book "Tails for Wee Dragons" to be read before he sleeps. As you can see, he also carries his favorite teddy bear and his blankie to be assured of a peaceful and happy trip to dreamland...

And these two characters are Willym and Gryn. Willym is (As I'm sure you have guessed by now) a Widget. In the tradition of the original Widget drawings I made, he has shining silver stars dangling from jewelry chains on his hat. Willym and Gryn have similar wings, and matching violet eyes. Willym, unlike other Widgets is covered with rainbow swirls, a distinct contrast to Gryn's pristine white. While I enjoyed the challenge of constructing this piece, it is oddly not one of my favorites, but remains posted because of it's uniqueness. I apologize for the low quality of the photo.
