Ariel
Intermediate Power of Elysium

The goddess of healing and mercy, Ariel is neutral good.  Her titles include the Merciful One and the Bright Lady.  The domains associated with Ariel are good, healing, protection, and water.  Followers of Ariel are known as brothers (if males) or sisters (if female), symbolic of the fact that followers of Ariel believe themselves to be a part of the masses, rather than above them.  Collectively, they are referred to as priests.

Priests of Ariel value humility and service to their fellow man above all else.  Brothers hold that even those who would not give it in return are deserving of mercy and help, and as such consider even priests of other evil alignment more as misguided than truly evil.  The important exceptions to Ariel’s views are the followers of Scourge, a festering canker on the face of humanity that all followers of Ariel have sworn to stamp out.  The realatively pacifistic views of the church mean that brothers are prevented from shedding blood, and generally consider using force in any other manner than self defense as truly a last resort.  As such, the favored weapon of Ariel is the relatively benign quarterstaff.  The holy symbol for all brothers and sisters is a large teardrop, symbolic for the tears Ariel sheds for the sufferings of all sentient beings.

Brothers have no formal ceremonies, although the dress for brothers and sisters on special occasions consists of immaculate white robes.  Ariel’s followers, although not an extremely powerful force in Annwn, are quite prevalent, and extremely popular with the commoners.  Typically, priests  are found in small, outlying villages, or in the slums of bustling cities, where they can help those who may not be wealthy enough to solicit services from other deities.  Most priests care little for politics, and few will be found holding any positions of power in the various kingdoms of Moravia.  Priests of Ariel are weak in combat, but have an extensive array of defensive granted powers to balance these deficiencies.
