The Eldridge, a gigantic interplanetary
emigrant spacecraft, suffered a sudden
shipwide systems malfunction. On the
monitors that warned of the ensuing danger,
a mysterious shadow flickered for but an
instant. Before the spacecraft's crew could
respond, someone or something had taken
over the entire ship.
As the passenders and crew attempted to
evacuate, the spacecraft's own laser
cannons coldly turned and shot them down.
The captain had no choice but to activate the
ship's self-destruct mechanism. In a flash of
light, the spacecraft fell to a nearby planet.
Born from the fallen wreckage, 'she' slowly
arose, her long hair blowing in the wind as
her eyes reflected the dawn's breaking light.
Reflecting the start of the day that 'god' and
'humankind' fell to earth.
Xenogears is another Square masterpeice. Cool and colorful characters, a deep and moving story, beautiful music, and long playing hours make Xenogears one of the most popular RPGs out there. Xenogears adds a new twist to the RPG genre, Gears. Gears are robot-like machines that the characters pilot. You can battle in and out of Gears and the scope of battle changes with each. Square chose to mix Anime with CG for some of the coolest movies in any videogame. Battles are also different because you can use the Triangle, Square, and X button to create combos that can eventual turn into very powerful Deathblow Combos. Each character has their own Deathblow Combos and Ether (magic) abilities as well as their own sidequests. There aren't really any problems except that at one point in the story there's dialog that lasts almost an hour. This happens only once so it isn't much of a problem. You'll fall in love with the characters and even some enemies (yes, there that likeable). The in-game screen has characters and other people done in sprites while the backgrounds are 3D. The story is extremely complicated, many gamers have even made websites containg their theories about what actually happened in te game and past history of characters...that's how unbelievable and original the story is! This game shows how well Square knows their stuff.
