April 6th
We were fortunate enough to be able to photograph the Yellow Bell and Balsam Root today. We discovered a new wild flower that we have been unable to identify. For the time being, we will just call it a purple cone.

Purple Cones Yellow Bells Balsam Root
April 19th

About 6 o’clock or so, when Susan was chatting online with her son Bentley in the AOL Instant Messenger, she said to him: “It’s a beautiful evening; you should get out.” (It was fabulous. The temperature was in the high 50’s.) Then she turned to me: “We should go for a walk.” “Let’s do it,” I replied.

It was truly a beautiful evening. The first thing we noticed was calm lake surface. There was little or no wind. The surface of the water was like a mirror, reflecting without distortion the houses and trees along the bank across the lake. Simply breathtaking!

We still saw buttercups, but not as many. Now the fields were filled with Camas, those lovely purple flowers. And the beck was still flowing, slowly though.

After walking around the south end and proceeding up the west side of Medical Lake, Susan alerted me to five beautiful deer foraging not 30 feet away from us. We stood very still, and they just stood there and looked at us, too! Slowly we turned, and continue on the path, and looking back, they were still there. I was so pleased that we did not startle them off.

When we got around to Peper Park, we noticed to our joy that there were five goslings. Those were the first that we’d seen. (Unfortunately we did not have the camera with us.)
