Lieutenant Commander Barker had been pouring over the database ASHER had left behind in the hope of finding some way of detecting the mirror Leviathan on long range sensors. He already knew that should the vessel use it’s quantum slipstream drive, then the slipstream would be easily detectable because of the different quantum signature of the vessel itself.

Most of the database was from the top secret SIGN project, of which ASHER had been a part some years previous. SIGN was designed to detect just the kind of threat that the ISS Leviathan now posed, but they had vastly under-estimated the threat. The Terran Empire now had a device that was capable in theory of transporting a vessel between universes. If the Leviathan could destroy it’s counter before it returned to it’s own universe, then it would setback their plans for years, possibly decades.

SIGN had been able to monitor these other universe under very restricted conditions and with highly advanced sensor systems. The project had placed monitoring stations throughout Federation space which would watch all the black hole and spatial anomalies for signs of alternate universes. They also had a fleet of vessels that could be used to rush to trouble spots.

*If only we still have the Interphase aboard.* Chu thought to himself.

The Interphase had been the small vessel Ensign ASHER had used to pass through the wormhole anomaly to where the Leviathan was stranded in the Andromeda Cirrus galaxy. ASHER had been drawn to the wormhole because of its very unusual nature. The crew of the Leviathan had found that the wormhole intersected several alternate universes, one of which had a black hole very close by.

The Interphase had the most advanced sensors Chu had ever seen, but had been taken by a Section 31 agent Ensign Morriden in a bid to escape. The vessel had entered the wormhole, forcing the Leviathan to follow, which in turn had created the position the crew now found themselves in. Nothing had been seen or heard of from the ship or Morriden since and so it was believed that they were destroyed in the wormhole. Then an idea hit him and Chu began to search through the database once more.

*This could work.* He thought to himself.

Half an hour later, he was in the Captain’s ready room with Commander Rashad, the Leviathan’s XO, explaining his idea to them both.

"The SIGN project has a vast array of interlinked sensor stations throughout the Federation. Many of these are on the borders with our neighbours and in allied territories." Chu started. "In theory we could use these to detect the mirror vessel, provided we can gain access to their data. Which is the hard part, the system is very secure and it could take some time to break in."

"But you believe that with these stations we can detect the vessel ?" Aki asked.

"Their sensor systems are far most advanced than any we have onboard and are tuned to specifically detect quantum anomalies. If we can interpret the data correctly, we should be able to detect any anomaly within fifty to sixty light years of any one station. With the location and spacing of these sensor posts, we should get at least two posts detecting the same anomaly."

"I can guess why you’re telling me all this." Commander Rashad stated. "You want my help in accessing the array."

"You are the best person for the job." Chu replied.

"Give me the details and I’ll see what I can do." Rashad stated.

Chu passed the Padd he had been working from to the Commander.

"You should find everything you need in here." Chu stated.

"OK, let’s get to it." Aki announced.

Both officers left the Captain behind in her ready room to ponder the news.

*Finally we are getting the upper hand. I just wish we we’re still stuck here at DS9.* She thought.
