I always laugh at the middle boy (Lycus?), pounding away at the peg his extremely brave sister is holding. He hits it about twenty times, but doesn't seem to be making much progress!
I LOVE Xena's delivery on "Do it!" in regards to Darius. The whole arrow scene is remarkable...there are shots of Xena where Lucy almost makes herself unrecognizable with her grimaces. Now, I'm no doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but why does Xena only cauterize the front wound? Shouldn't she cauterize the back where the arrow was pushed through? And for that matter, when Darius rips her leathers (very easily for leather, I might add), where's her shift? Accent slip..."You can't make peace with warmakeers". The window in Darius's barn looks identical to the one in Xena's cell in The Reckoning. I giggle everytime Xena stops a fight to rip the sides of her dress so she has some kicking room! When Xena runs into Gabs later in the episode, her chakram is clearly visible on her left hip. Wasn't she supposed to have left it behind in Darius's barn? And I know I've mentioned it before, but Lucy's vaccination scar is clearly evident in the same scene. Then later, when Xena is leading Argo, the chakram has switched to her right hip, but it's still there. That is an extremely long rope Xena uses to lasso the bad guys! Where did it come from? And how did Gabrielle know Spherus's name? She says it during the chariot race. Who told her? In the final scene, Darius's silo is back. With all the other troubles going on, he sure managed to get it built fast! It was interesting to see how well Xena interacted with the children. They were sweet kids too, and she probably was tempted to stay. Another sad ending for a X:WP episode. What did Gary think of this one? I think this episode made us realize how resourceful and clever Gabby was. She was harrassed by a drunk at the tavern, and went to a greasy-looking warlord for protection, sitting on his lap, kissing him,and asking him to make believe that he knows her.No problem,he says. Meanwhile,Xena fights off a band of marauders who are attacking a barn-building bunch of farmers. She thwarts their efforts, but gets hit by a crossbow bolt, and falls unconscious to the ground. A farmer with three kids take her to their home...the mother is dead. He then removes the bolt and saves Xena's life. Meanwhile,a warlord tries to get his son,the one who shot Xena,to kill the farmers so he can take over the area. He is a foillower of Ares, and his son disappoints him by not being as warlike as he is. Xena is asked to go to a meeting with the towspeople and the warlord's son to talk peace. It is a set-up,and Xena stops the bad guys from killing the farmers. She is blamed for wrecking the peace process. Near the end,Xena meets Gabby and they are chased by the warlord in a chariot. A second chariot is taken over by Xena and the chase begins for real. Gabby is on Argo and has to jump into Xena's chariot...a frantic leap, she says.A fight ensues, and Xena kills the warlord. The son wants peace. The farmer wants Xena to stay and be his wife...his kids need a mom,but Xena says not now...she has things to do.She really looked like she wanted to stay, too. She and Gabby leave. I believe that Gabby proved her bravery by jumping onto the chariot...no mean feat. She was alone at the tavern, and took care of herself. Xena realized that Gab could take care of herself, and also saw that people could love Xena, even tho she had done wrong in the past. It was a good episode, both in action and good dialogue.
