Bartlett's Familiar Quotations: The classic on the Web. Literature Resources: Good for literary information from the Bible to the present. Many fun links. One Look Dictionary: Possibly the fastest word help on the Web. It's actually dozens of dictionaries and there are a variety of ways to search. Go play there today and see what it can do. Rhyming dictionary: This place gives you perfect rhyes, homophones, synonyms, related words, a spelling check and picture search. Sometimes helpful when you're stuck on a headline. Cliche Finder: Small database of common cliches. It's fast and sometimes helpful when you're struggling with a headline. Information Please: Online dictionary, Internet encyclopedia and almanac. Mind-boggling resource. Acronym Finder: This site has 94,100 acronyms, abbreviations and their meanings. Searchable. Not real fast, but accurate. Also has a reverse lookup tool, in which you give it one word and it will give you acronyms and abbreviations for everything in its database with that word in it. ALLwords.com: This dictionary from Arbor Media, Inc. and the AND Concise Dictionary is searchable in English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Italian. You can search for "word beginnings" or "word endings" or "words containing". This feature makes it unique. The LOGOS Dictionary: This translator contains 25 languages -- in theory -- and will translate a word into many of them simultaneously. It's a little complicated, but fast and worth a try. It's kind of fun, too. Alta Vista Translations: Translate words, phrases or Web pages in English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, French and Italian. It's pretty fast, but not always accurate. Play with it before you use it on deadline to discover its weaknesses. The Online Slang Dictionary: Beware: Lots of offensive words. But there is more than that and it's a long list. I'm looking for something a little more useful. If you have suggestions, send me an e-mail. Languages in Latin America: Lots of links organized by language and country. NetLingo: Internet and computing terms. Fast search.
