How can you go wrong? Fenton's is one of those old-timey ice-cream parlours. It has the wood tables, marble counters, and the general look and feel of a bustling diner.
When I was a kid, going to Fenton's was a huge treat. We'd go as a whole family, which includes a multitude of cousins, and share large sundaes. Considering that I haven't eaten at Fenton's in 10 years, I was afraid to go back because I didn't want to risk shattering my fond memories of the best ice cream ever by going back and realizing that I'd rather have some Bryer's. But I was not disappointed.
I've been back to Fenton's twice. The first time I was in a rush (trying to get some ice-cream on a lunch break causes some tight scheduling), so I just got some plain vanilla to go ($3). Man, that is some amazing vanilla. Really thick, creamy, not too sweet. Just plain good ice cream.
The next time I went with Grace. We shared a Black&Tan ($8) which is a sundae comprised of vanilla and toasted almond ice-cream with fudge, caramel, whipped cream and a cherry on top, although we substitued the almond ice-cream for some coffee ice-cream. YUM. Jeeze, I'm hankering for some ice cream right now just thinking about it. Needless to say, the sundae was fantastic.
So if you feel like ice-cream, Fenton's is a must. If you want to be seated, the wait is long (avg. 20min) but its for a reason. And if you're in a rush, there's a to-go line. Either way you will not be disappointed.
