These works represent Jamie Zhang's innovations in traditional Chinese painting.    This style of detailed brushwork is known as "Gongbi" painting.  The materials are eco-friendly and ancient: traditional water-based mineral and vegetable "paints" applied to Chinese paper and silk.  She uses traditional materials and techniques and achieves unique results that are both elegant and contemporary.  
Please bear in mind that photographs can only approximate the effects of a painting: details are lost, tones are distorted and the drama of their interplay is diminished.
