What is the benefit of using a proofreader or editor?

In the academic context, having an editor or proofreader work with you can give your paper a polished look it might not otherwise have. The beneficial effect is that your professor will have a more favorable opinion of your writing and may alter your grade due to this perception. In the professional context, it is almost more important to have an editor or proofreader. You always want your work to be as polished as possible so that your clients will have an increased opinion as to your professionalism.
