An actress who gained much attention with the release of her U.S. feature film debut, Coyote Ugly, Izabella Miko has been working virtually her entire life. Born and raised in Poland, she originally aspired to a professional dancing career, and at age 7, began studying at Europe's prominent Chopin Music School. Throughout her childhood, Miko studied voice and piano daily. The combination of these talents, combined with her ephemeral beauty, led to work in numerous Polish films, and theatrical production. Miko moved to the United States at the age of 14, after being discovered in New York at the Polish Ballet Convention. Accepting an invitation to dance with the school of American Ballet (a.k.a. The New York Ballet), Miko subsequently traveled the world as a dancer, often returning to New York to dance at SAB. Miko returned to Poland in the summer of 1998, when the rigors of the road and her relentless pursuit of perfection resulted in a career-ending injury at age seventeen. Undaunted, she revived her passion for acting, and promptly landed a role in the feature film, Lithuania. Thus revitalized, Miko returned to New York and began studying at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. After signing with a modeling agency, Miko captured the attention of such acclaimed photographers as David LaChapelle, Manuella Pavesi, and Ellen Von Uwerth. In early 1999, Miko went on her first audition ever for an American film, and landed a highly coveted role in Jerry Bruckheimer's paen to New York nightlife, Coyote Ugly. In this Disney summer release, Miko plays "Cammie", a heartbreaker who proves to be the group's born romantic. Continuing her success, Miko can currently be seen playing a leading role in the Sony/Screen Gems thriller, The Forsaken, opposite Jonothan Schaech and Kerr Smith. |
