“Where have all the ideas
gone?”

Stan Lee, Bob Kane, Shuster &Seigel, Jack Kirby. These are
some of the names
of the inovative minds that made this industry. Back in the early days (circa
1940’s-the 70’s)
comic books were more geared towards kids, and somewhat frowned upon by the
over twelve group.
Although as time went on characters became more believable, comics went from
amazing fantasy stories that had heroes and villians with godlike powers
fighting in make believe cities to characters who lived in real life places
melding real life problems with the Sci-Fi element to make great stories. In
short, you can honestly feel for the character with limitations.
Superman was a huge sucess when he first debut in comics but as the months
went on the man of steel was completly invincible and thus adding to a
anti-climactic endings. As you can imagine with no chalenge DC soon saw a
drop in sales, bringing about the creation of kryptonite. I bet when a kid in
the fourties walked into his corner shop and saw a magazine with Superman
kneeling in pain that would come with curiosity.
What could defeat the big blue? Superman’s popularity returned. Change and
challange create curiosity, and in turn curiosity brings you back the next
month. Our industry thrives on it. Interesting challanges and plot twists and
dynamic art to captivate and excite.
