1. Cleaning

Home ]

Day 1 comprised mostly of tearing down the cabinet, cleaning it up and filling some holes for later finishing.

Here it is as I got it, it's hard to make out in this picture but the Control panel is kinda munged.

Here's the inside sans the lemons and old hats, still chock full of native Arizona flora and fauna though.

The back view.  You can see how stripped this thing is, there's no coin door or even a back door.  I think I might leave it without the back door to aid in cooling since it will house a 27" TV.

Here is the old coin door area with the big ass holes left by the security bolts and some kind of door on the right that did who knows what at some point in this machine's life.  I think I will remove the door and plaster over it when I finish the exterior.  Since I had to strip the coin door off for the previous owner before I could take it, I will most likely get another over/under door from Happ, or just build a regular door.

This is the original side art, minus the Soul Caliber bumper sticker looking graphic that was on the top of this side.  Even though I'm fond of a guy who appears to be the Japanese Elvis, we screwed up the decal pretty bad trying to load it on trish's truck, so...

Away it goes!  Look ma, the original color.  You can also see that at this point the control panel has been removed  as well as the T-molding.  The sides are still amazingly stained, so I will sand down the exterior and re-surface the cabinet.

Here's what the inside of this thing looks like without the old power supply carcas and wildlife.  Pretty plain, but a whooooole lotta real estate to play with in there

Here's about all that was included with the old cabinet, a pair of speakers, some assorted wires, part of the power supply, an old token, a penny and some bugs.

Finally here is what's left of the original Control Panel.  It pretty much fell apart on the one side when I pulled it off the cabinet, so I will definately need to re-build the damn thing.  I will most likely go with a slightly different design as I don't think my wood working skills are enough to make something so curvy.
