The Story of my Car |
Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: |
This 1981 Monte Carlo Sport Coupe started
out as white 6-banger with a red/wood grain bench seat
interior. Options included A/C and power windows. I
really don't know anything else about it up until 1996.
That's when my friend bought it. It was found from a
Newsday ad. Sometime along the way, someone transplanted
a 377" small block, Turbo 350 trans w/ a
10"converter, and a hacked-up Ford 9" rear. It
also now had dual 2 1/2" exhaust with 2-chamber
flowmasters, Chrysler red bucket seats, gauges hammered
into the dashboard, and the heater box was removed. The
car was in pretty rough shape. My buddy also found an '87 Monte SS for sale. This car had been slammed in the driver's side door. The rest of the car was in decent shape, and the engine and trans had been removed. Off came the front clip. This went on the '81. Other transplanted items were: most of the interior, passenger door, trunklid, tail lights, rear bumper, quarter windows, rear window and heater box. After all these parts were replaced onto the '81, the remaining '81 body panels were repainted. Then I bought the car in April '97. For more info, look at the Specs page. Since then, it has been treated to a new Moser rear housing, new fuel tank with sump, Holley blue electric fuel pump, aluminum 1/2" fuel feed line, Autometer gauges, shift light, MSD 6AL box, new crank, rods, pistons, heads, cam, intake, carb, water pump, radiator, and alternator. The rest of the interior has been upgraded to SS specs. Also new are the Centerline rims, shocks, rear springs, control arms and brakes. I've also been trying to clean everything. 20 years of grime has accumulated quite nicely everywhere. Future plans might include electronic fuel injection and some serious brakes. A roll cage will be necessary soon, also. More Pictures |
