Joe Dick
Born: Joseph Mulgrew
Joe’s first run-in with the law was at age 13. He was arrested for vandalism.
During his court appearance he met Billy Tallent, another juvenile delinquent.
Since that day at the old Vancouver courthouse Joe and Billy have been
inseparable. After the community service was over the two boys decided to start
a band, and then another one, and so on. Joe and Billy never played without each
other.
Early on in Hard Core Logo’s career Joe developed a nasty coke habit. It was the
root of most of the band’s tensions and problems. Joe refused to give up coke
even when the band’s future depended on it.
Joe seemed to be the natural “leader” in the band. He was outspoken, rebellious,
but he knew what it took to survive. He kept everyone in line even after he had
been on a three day bender. After Billy was signed to play with Jennifur Joe was
jealous and frustrated. After their last gig in Edmonton on the reunion tour,
Joe left without letting anyone know where he was going.
“After a certain age it’s hard to make friends. An’ I’ve known Joe
since I was 13. I love him more than anyone that I’ve met since.” - Billy
