Ooberman
The Magic Treehouse
Independiente
Championed by many and hated by not many atall, Bradford's second best band have finally finished their debut album to a flurry of whoops and yells. A 236 date UK tour, thirty-six part rockumentary and spin-off theme park chain are to follow, along with a star studded gala album launch at Wembley Stadium, with the event being projected live onto the moon via satellite.
OK, it's not true but it might happen...
Ooberman aren't the most eagerly awaited band around but their debut is here at last (and it is championed by many - that bit was true!) and impressive it is too.
Constantly inventive and surprising, The Magic Treehouse is a virtual dogfight of keyboards, catchy choruses and spunky riffs. Imagine David Devant and Bis having a brawl with Pixies harmonies underneath, while chumbawamba weep in the corner at how they've been beaten (to a pulp) at their own game by a band who can write verses aswell as choruses. A lot of different sounds bounce in and out, from the cute anthemic singalongs of Sur La Plage and Million Suns to the laid back chillout of Roro Blue.
Humourous without being annoying, singlalong without being repetitive and original without being pants, Ooberman may play Wembley yet.
And any band that can pull off a Do It Yourself "brrr-brr-brr" trumpet solo and still sound great need more exposure.
So keep watching the moon because one day you never know, you might just see Ooberman play.
9/10 Karl Cremin.
