Ooberman - Wolverhampton Civic Hall - 21/10/99
Ooberman - flailing around, but with a purpose...
Ooberman have everything it takes to become the next big thing. An energetic, charismatic lead singer, a keyboarder/backing vocalist who can do harmonies an angel would be proud of and some of the best songs you are likely to hear all year from their debut album, The Magic Tree House.
Supporting Gomez could have made Ooberman a little nervous and overawed, especially with an audience who wouldn't know much if any of their songs and knowing the usual hostile reception support bands can usually receive. But they weren't going to let this hold them back and it didn't take long for the audience to realise that they weren't watching any run of the mill support and that these were going to be big.
What was more surprising was the quality of just about every song. Many of the new album tracks were of the same or better standard than the singles (Shorely Wall, Tears From the Willow.)
Ooberman are a band that demand your respect. So don't wait for the next Oasis/Manics/Steriophonics album to appear because Ooberman are here now. So buy their album and show them the respect they deserve.
