Wellington Zoo Entrance: The entry way to another world. Today, zoos make great effort to emphasise their role in existence. Where once it was enough for them to simply be a menagerie of animals, a kind of a living stamp collection, today they must prove their right to life. The four roles of a good zoo are Entertainment, Education, Conservation and Research. All good zoos will be able to do these. Like many older zoos, Wellington needs to live with its past and yet reinvent itself. A good looking entrance is the start of this.
