The start of a new year and we have excellent news with the birth of a gorilla at Taronga Zoo. Kriba gave birth to a daughter round about the 7th January, her fourth youngster, and third at the zoo. The female has been named Kimya and joins her nearly two year old half brother and sister in the gorilla colony
There have been a total of five babies born at Taronga with only one lost.
- The National Zoo and Aquarium in the ACT has been granted 60 hectares of land to develop further enclosures. The owner, Richard Tindale, says he wants to use the land to develop an open range zoo, especially for their bears.
- Werribees new born white rhino calf now has a name. A competition saw the swahili word, Tawali, meaning straight on.
