Chapter 1
"Oh Kaho, please reconsider!" begged Eriol Hiragizawa
over the phone. He sighed when Kaho Mizuki used her kind
schoolteacher voice and explained to him that she was swept off
her feet by another man while studying in a university in
Australia.
"Kaho, for pete's sake! We're engaged for two years
already-age gap?! Hell,I don't care! Those people don't know our
circumstances-hello? hello?" Damn! Eriol slammed the phone
down furiously. The nerve of that woman, betraying him and
discarding him like a pair of old shoes. He'll show her! As soon
as she returns to Japan to formally break their engagement,
she'll find a new girl who took her place in his heart already.
And no matter how much she begs for him to take her back, he will
not give in anymore. He'll watch her with mocking eyes and say
something incredibly clever for her to gnash her teeth out like..
like.. he'll think of one later.
But for now, he must find the perfect girl who will masquerade as
his girlfriend. But who?
Takashi Yamazaki gave him a firm shake of the head. "No.
Don't involve Chiharu with your love life labyrinth."
Eriol sighed. He just finished narrating his dilemma, but
Yamazaki was not the least interested! Where's the so-called
brotherhood? Where's camaraderie when you need one?
Naoko Yanagisawa smiled. "I volunteer."
He involuntarily shuddered. "No thanks." He glanced at
Rika sasaki with interest but the warning look Mr. Terada gave
him while passing by the corridors delivered the message to him
loud and clear: Hands off.
Sakura Kinomoto then entered the room, a bright smile on her
pretty face. "Good morning everyone! Good morning
Eriol!"
He smiled. "Good morning Sakura." But he didn't dare
consider the poor child. Aside from the fact that she's his
'daughter', he knew better than to desire a Li's greatest
treasure, particularly when the head of the Li clan owns the
treasure.
Then something made him stop. Following her best friend was
Tomoyo Daidouji. He watched as she gracefully slid to her seat and
plastered a small sweet smile on her face. "Good morning
everyone."
Eureka! Eriol screamed in his mind joyfully. He found his perfect
leading lady in this mushy soap opera. He will ask her help
later. She must not turn him down!
"Good morning class." the teacher entered the
classroom.
Recess...
Tomoyo was fixing her camera when some one cleared his throat
behind her. She chose to ignore it.
Annoyed. Eriol cleared his throat again and again until finally,
he got her attention. She looked up,an eyebrow arched. "Will
you please stop spreading your nasty germs? You can get a cough
medicine in the clinic so you can prevent an epidemia in
school."
He forced a smile. "I don't need a cough medicine. I need
you."
She looked startled. "I don't owe you anything, do I?"
He made his first move and sat beside her. "No. In fact, it
will be ME who will owe you something."
"R-Really huh?" An uncomfortable Tomoyo subtly moved
away, but to her dismay, he even moved closer to her!
"Real-ly." He quickly imprisoned both of her hands.
"I desperately need your help,Tomoyo." Inspite of
himself, he found Tomoyo's stifled gasp and sudden blush very
very delightfully cute.
"M-My help?" she sputtered.
He nodded emphatically.
"You're not concocting a diabolical plan to assassinate our
freaky librarian, are you, Eriol?" she asked in mock horror.
"Not a bad idea, but actually, I need another kind of help
that doesn't involve blood." He took a deep breath before
letting out the bomb. "I want you to pretend to be my
girlfriend."
"W-WHAT?!" Tomoyo stood up, cheeks flushed.
"Eriol, do you know what you're saying?"
He shrugged. "I wouldn't say anything that I do not know,
unless my mouth is suddenly possessed and starts speaking alien
sounds."
"Funny." Tomoyo placed her hands on her hips. "I
can't be your girlfriend, Eriol!"
"And why not?" He wanted to know.
"B-Because.." She averted her gaze. "Because we
don't like each other."
He laughed. "We'll never know until we try."
"What do I get in return?" she asked in a business-like
tone.
He gave her a dazzling smile. "The honour of having me as
your boyfriend."
"Eriol?"
"Yeah?"
"Start shelving your coffee. Too much caffeine is distorting
your brain."
