Between
1986 & 2006 Hossam Hassan missed 4 African Cups which could've raised
his number of caps played and tournaments attended to unreachable numbers
Missed 1990 he missed
because Mahmoud El-Gohary,
Egypt's coach decided to send the Olympic team to African cup to give room
for First team preparation for the World Cup later the same year
Missed
1994
as he was suspended by his club Ahly
for an internal conflict and the suspension was induced by Ahly on both
domestic and international levels
Missed 1996 as he was
not selected by national team coach at the time Ruud
Krul, only
to return the following cup 1998 to lead Egypt to the african title
and become the tournament top scorer with Benedict McCarthy from
South Africa
Missed
2004
as he was not selected by national team coach at the time Mohsen
Saleh, with whom he had a history
of previous problems, only to return to the squad again in 2006
at the age of 40
