recognised Hossam Hassan's achievement on May 6th, 2001 A
special armband will be worn by the most-capped international still playing
for his country, FIFA have announced. FIFA president Sepp Blatter and former
France captain Michel Platini presented Egypt's Hossam Hassan with a souvenir
medal, a diploma and the armband on Sunday, May 6th, 2001 in Cairo at the
laying of the foundation stone for the new African Football Confederation
headquarters. The armband "will serve to mark him out as a still active
national team player holding the world record in the number of times he
has played for his national team", a FIFA statement said. "This armband
will be worn henceforth to indicate the still active national team player
who holds the world record in international appearances," it said. Hassan
became the most capped soccer player of all time on January 9 when earned
his 151st cap for Egypt. The previous record of 150 was set by Germany's
