Chapter Thirteen...I Promise

Jyson stared at the mirror, in shock. It was Kelsey's handwriting; he could recognize it anywhere. But the strokes were bolder - harder. More self - assured. Something Kelsey lacked. Jyson's eyes narrowed, his stubbornness blinding him to the consequences of his actions. He thrust his fist at the mirror, and watched glass fall in slow motion, slicing his skin. He watched the blood pour down to the ground, staining the carpet. He saw the metaphor of staining and blood Kelsey would never know of. He could stain her; he'd done it once, hadn't he?

Taylor looked at Kelsey, who was at the moment absorbed in her spiral. Her pen flew across the page, decorating it with emotion. He noticed the pen stop. She was looking at him; she smiled. Taylor worked his way across the room and set next to her as she closed her spiral.

At first they didn't say anything, but Kelsey was the first to speak. "Tay...I know you know." Taylor merely nodded. "I also know you want to know why I'm doing this and what is going through my mind." Taylor argued in his mind, 'No, your heart.' But Kelsey, unaware, continued, "I can't tell you everything now. I've put you through hell already. But I made the hell myself and I'm not going to stay in it." Taylor's eyes had turned a trusting blue, "Why?" he asked. Kelsey took in a deep breath, "Because you don't belong there."

Taylor felt his heart leap in his throat. They both gazed into each others' eyes, asking and answering questions beyond their comprehension. Their lips met, as strangers and lovers combined as one. Taylor let his hands fall to her waist as she slipped hers around his neck, making him feel cold and heat at the same time.

Taylor didn't know why she was here, and didn't care why. As long as she was with him. That was all he needed.

Later the night, Kelsey crept into the living room. Taylor had insisted on her sleeping in his bed and him on the couch. But Kelsey could feel a restlessness within her and she couldn't sleep. It didn't seem to irritate her as much as she felt her feet meet the soft carpet.

She let her eyes fall over Taylor. His hair was hanging limply against his face - a tangle of brown and blonde locks. His eyes were closed and the tired lines in his face had vanished. She smiled, thinking, 'Such a sweet little baby.' The press had always said he had a baby face; they were right.

Kelsey let emotion run through her. At first she was scared; for such a long time, fear and pain were the only emotions she had known. But suddenly, she found a place of peace amid the madness. Her heart felt as though every load had left it. It was incredible; she had never felt anything so peaceful and yet, so overwhelming.

She felt a tear escape from the corner of her eye, and she let it cascade down her face. She smiled when she tasted it on her lips. A tear of joy. Kelsey couldn't remember the last time she had cried one of those.

At that moment, Taylor's eyes opened. At first he was alarmed when he saw the tear, but then he saw the smile on her face. But he also noticed a peace in her eyes. He gazed up at her, locking eyes and exchanging thoughts. Kelsey lost herself in his eyes and could feel him attaching his heart to hers.

She slowly slid in beside him and he wrapped his arms around her. He nestled her head beneath his chin and they slowly fell asleep, mingling their hearts.

Kelsey screamed against her tears, "Go away!" She kept running, but there he was, always so close, so close, getting closer. She kept running to the light and to Taylor, but they kept getting further and further away and the light was getting dimmer. Feelings and emotions threw themselves at her, thrusting her heart to new depths within heights. So close, so far, so dark...

"Kelsey..." Kelsey's eyes jerked open to meet Taylor's. Taylor held onto her arms, trying to stop her trembling. "Kelsey...you were dreaming." Kelsey's eyes were dazed and blank. Then, suddenly, Taylor saw them close and tears appeared. "You were so far away..." she whispered, her voice trembling.

"So far..." she kept saying it. Taylor felt his heart begin to break; he couldn't stand seeing her like this. "Shh..." he whispered into her ear, wrapping his arms tighter around her and pulling her closer. "You weren't there; you left," she told him, almost pleading. "Kelsey, look at me," he turned her towards him. "Open your eyes." As some more prodding, she did. Taylor spoke both with his words and his eyes, "I'll never leave you. I promise."

It's been so long
Since I've had
Blind Faith
In anyone.
I was shunned,
I was beat,
I never thought
God's meaning and I
would meet.
But I see Him
In your eyes
And I see myself
falling into you.
God must've spent just a little
more time on you
For I find truth
in your words and your lips
And I find false realities
Fading away
in your eyes
Amid all this madness
it is you I recognize
and amid all this hate
it is you
I love.*
