Chapter 2 - School Supplies

“WHAT??? MOM!!! All three of us are going to be recognized!” Taylor yelled, shocked that his mother wanted him of all people to go outside where ten millions girls were waiting to pull his hair out...literally. Zac, practically reading Taylor’s thoughts, immediately covered his head and began screaming at the top of his lungs, “MY HAIR!!! NO PULL!!! HAIR MINE! MINE, MINE, MINE!!! MI-” the fifth and final ‘MINE’ was cut off by Diana putting her hand over Zac’s mouth.

“Taylor, all three of you go to the movies and it isn’t bad...besides at the stores you can wear baseball caps and sunglasses; at school you can’t so get used to it.” Diana stared at her fourteen year old soon, soon to be fifteen, thinking ‘He’s got the same stubborn look on his face as Walker gets sometimes. I’m going to miss that.’ Diana’s face softened but when Taylor opened his mouth she immediately said, “Don’t even, young man.” ‘I love the boybut that doesn’t mean I’m going to pity him. We warned him about this.’ Diana thought, comforting herself in the fact.

The truth was Diana loved all of her children and wanted to be near them 24-7. But doing seven different grade levels with each child wanting to excel in different subjects with the added aspect of Zoe beginning school was a bit hard on her, to say the least.

At that moment, Isaac walked in, brushing his hair. He had been up for some time and explaining the situation with his mother. He had heard Zac delcaring to all the world the his hair was “MINE” and Isaac was honestly beginning to wonder how come his mom hadn’t sent the three boys to school earlier.

Later, as the three boys and their mom wandered through the store looking at three different school supply lists and wondering where the heck everything was, Isaac heard some whispering behind them. Isaac, being experienced with this type of thing (it only happened everywhere he went) pretended he didn’t hear it and went about assisting his mom in keeping Zac from jumping into the cart.

Isaac murmured to himself as he read the top of the page he was holding, “School Supply List for Tulsa High.” Then he heard a voice behind him, “You goin’ to T’ High?” Isaac turned around and was face to face with a girl who wasn’t exactly your typical girl-next-door if you know what I’m saying.

Her strikingly black hair flowed about her shoulders, and she wore a shirt (if it could even be called that) that Isaac doubted very much was within the “T’ High’s” dress code. Her jeans were quite possibly as tight as she could get them without suffocating herself. Isaac merely nodded and smiled politely.

“Well I got news, pretty boy. There’s gonna be things you won’t like about; hell they are plenty I don’t like about it. Just watch your back ‘cause I know plenty of guys that are out to rip every little blonde hair of yours out.”

Then she walked away. Isaac turned to stare at the back of her as she walked away. He had met some honest people in his time, but this was slightly more honesty than Isaac felt he really needed.
